Records broken everywhere at the 6th annual Michigan Short Track Racing Club Bowling Tournament!
By M.P.H. Promotions

Owosso, Michigan (Monday, February 16, 2009): The 6th annual Michigan Short Track Racing Club (M.S.T.R.C.) Bowling Tournament continues to show why it’s the biggest bowling and bench racing extravaganza for the short track racing community in the state of Michigan.

The jam packed Capitol Bowl in Owosso, Michigan was the site for the sixth annual extravaganza as the Bowling Tournament benefitted two family members of the racing community in the Great Lakes State; The Newman Family of New Lothrop, Michigan and Daniel “Doc” Dutton of Lansing, Michigan.

A new record 130 bowlers jammed the 24-lane bowling alley in downtown Owosso, Michigan and the unofficial total raised for the two benefactors was another astounding record; $2,526.50! An official total will be released in the coming days after checks are added and cleared!

Everyone involved with the M.S.T.R.C. Bowling Tournament Committee would like to thank all the generous sponsors who donated door prizes and everyone who took part in the 6th annual M.S.T.R.C. Bowling Tournament.

As for the award winners of the 6th annual M.S.T.R.C. Bowling Tournament, Tournament Committee Member, Ed Inloes, the new Co-Announcer at Auto City Speedway and Voice of the Spartan Speedway, along-with Spartan Pony Stock driver, Randy Kretzinger, Jr., were crowned the overall winners as they combined to roll a 751 in the two games bowled to win the Team High Series awards!

Spartan Speedway Pony Stocks Runner-Up in 2008, Wayne Beckner, Jr., rolled the highest game of the tournament with a 268, which tied the all-time highest game set in 2005 by Susan Kelley and tied for the first time in 2008 by George Lord. Wayne Beckner, Sr., won the Men’s High Series title with a 506 series.

For the women, Kim Lauderdale was the winner of Women’s High Game with a 178 and also rolled a high series of 314. In M.S.T.R.C. Bowling Tournament tradition, no one bowler can win more than won award, so Kris Hudson was awarded the Women’s High Series trophy with a 289 series.

Misty Allen, another Pony Stock driver at Spartan Speedway picked up the newly renamed Greg Yost Memorial Never Give Up Award after bowling a 46. The award was renamed the Greg Yost Memorial Never Give Up Award in honor of the late Greg Yost, a benefactor during the 3rd annual tournament, who passed away in August of 2006.

Another M.S.T.R.C. Bowling Tournament Committee Member, Matt Prieur, the returning Voice of the Dixie Motor Speedway as well as Co-Announcer of the Owosso Speedway beginning in 2009, was the winner of the 2008 / 2009 Chris Throgmartin Dedication and Spirit Award.

For the third year in a row, “Team Big Mouth” took the special Traveling Team Award pitting Team Big Mouth against Team Gone Fishin. Team Big Mouth consisted of; Ted Carpenter, Ed Inloes, Dave Kennedy, Matt Prieur and Shaun Whitney.

Members of Team Gone Fishin included; Brandon Curtis, Chuck Darling, Brian Howey, Ken Shook, and Kyle Trinklein. Team Big Mouth won the special Five-Man Team Award as they defeated Team Gone Fishin 1434-1164 to take home the Special Traveling “We Whipped Your A$$ Award for the third year in a row.

Finally in a touching tribute, the Founder of the Michigan Short Track Racing Club, Chuck Darling was presented with a special Autographed Clock as a token of appreciation for all of his hard work and dedication to the Michigan Short Track Racing Club.

After the Bowling Tournament and Awards Ceremony, the Capitol Bowl Hot Spot was jam packed with race fans to listen to Spartan Speedway Modified veteran, Matt Schindewolf’s Classic Rock Band, “Basement Dawgs” performing live well into the evening hours to conclude a very eventful day and night of fun in Owosso, Michigan.

The MSTRC Bowling Tournament was started in 2004 as a way for the racing community in the great auto racing state of Michigan to get together over the winter and bowl for a great cause. Today, the M.S.T.R.C. Bowling Tournament is the biggest fund raiser in the State of Michigan for racing families in need.

A special thanks once again to all the donations and sponsors of the bowling tournament; Beginning with the M.S.T.R.C. Bowling Tournament Committee of; Brenda and Chuck Darling, Linda and Ed Inloes, Elaine and Matt Prieur, and Verwayne Greenhoe.

In addition, special thanks goes out to Sue Woolworth, along-with Linda Inloes, Elaine Prieur, and Annie Morrish for organizing the Door Prize tables as well as James and Amanda Maurer of Dick Maurer Racing for all their hard work in putting together the Drivers Door Prizes table.

Special Thanks also to Owosso Speedway Co-Owner / Promoter and Co-Announcer, Rick Miracle for performing the invocation and to Dixie Motor Speedway and Owosso Speedway Co-Owner / Promoter, Pam Parish for singing the National Anthem.

It was also an honor and privilege to be graced by the presence of Four (4) members of the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame! Owosso’s favorite son, the Legendary Tim Felver made an appearance as well as one of the greatest announcers of all-time, Gary Lindahl, the voice of the Flat Rock Speedway and Toledo Speedway. Eastern Michigan Racing Icon, Jay Woolworth was also in attendance and finally, Spartan Speedway Owner / Promoter, “Poor” Paul Zimmerman.

Finally a huge thanks to Tom Trecha and the hard working staff of Capitol Bowl for all of their hard work in helping make the 6th annual M.S.T.R.C. Bowling Tournament such a rousing success!

It was also announced that the 7th annual M.S.T.R.C. Bowling Tournament date has already been secured at Capitol Bowl and is set for Valentine’s Day Weekend once again on Saturday, February 13, 2010.

More details will be announced towards the end of the 2009 racing season as benefactors will be nominated beginning on September 1, 2009 with a decision made by the M.S.T.R.C. Bowling Tournament Committee as to who the two benefactors will be, no later than December 1, 2009.
