The time is getting close for the Spaulding Insurance 60 for the Hornet division at Auto City Speedway. This will run on June 20th. It is a 60 lap race that requires one mandatory pit stop under green flag conditions to change one tire.
This is an invitational which means that Auto City registration is not required. It is a points race for registered drivers but not the same as during a normal weekly event. All registered Auto City Hornet drivers will receive a flat 40 points for attending this event. No points will be awarded for qualifying or heat races.
We will start 24 cars. The top 16 qualifiers will be locked in and will start 1-16 with the top 4 inverted. Positions 17-18 will come from the consi. Positions 19-24 are reserved as provisional starting positions available for registered Auto City Hornet drivers who have competed in at least 3 features. If all 6 positions are not needed, they will be filled from the consi.
The following cars are eligible for this event with a few stipulations:
Auto City Hornets
Spartan Speedway Pony Stocks
Flat Rock 4 cylinders
Owosso Sport Stock ( 4 cylinder only )
Cars from other tracks, please call 810-280-8561 first to find out if you are legal.
The stipulations: All cars must follow Auto City rules concerning tires, weight, and exhaust or they will not be allowed to compete. In addition, any car found with illegal parts that your track does not allow will either not be allowed to race or will be DQ'd upon discovery. All the usual safety related items must be in place.
Tire rule: no wider than 195 and sidewall may be no shorter than 70 series. All four tires must be the same size except for Neons. Neons can have 185 on the front and 195 on the rear.
Exhaust rule: the last 6 inches of the exhaust pipe must be no larger than 2 inch OD. Certain cars must use a smaller size and some are longer than 6 inches. For instance, Neons with automatics must be 1.5 inch OD and 18 inches long. Neons with manual transmission must be 1.5 OD and 24 inches long.
Weight rule: 2350 w/driver. Some cars require more weight. For example, Neons w/SOHC are 2450. Neons w/DOHC are 2500.
Look up your car to see if it is an eligible model and also to see if it has a special exhaust and weight rule such as the Neons. Click here for the list. Be sure to check the list, only cars from GM, Ford, and Chrysler are allowed.
Basic rules for the race:
Each car must make one mandatory pit stop under green flag conditions. It is required that at least one left side tire be changed during this stop. No power tools are allowed at any time. Only human powered tools may be used.
The mandatory pit stop must occur from lap 10 through lap 50. Any stop before lap 10 or after lap 50 cannot count as your mandatory stop. Once the leader has crossed the line for lap 10, mandatory pit stops may be performed. Once the leader has crossed the line for lap 51, if you have not made your mandatory pit stop yet, you will be penalized as the last car running.
Cars may pit at any time for any reason, such as for fuel, blown tires, mechanical trouble, etc.
A maximum of three crewmembers are allowed over the imaginary pit road wall. If more than 3 go over the wall, the car will be held on pit road for a length of time to be determined by the race director. Additional crewmembers are allowed, but only 3 may go over the wall.
A black flag does not mean you are out of the race. If you receive a black flag, you must enter pit road for consultation.
The pit road speed limit is 20 mph. Any driver caught speeding on pit road will receive a black flag and must enter pit road for a "stop and go" penalty.
There are other rules that will be covered on race day and during the drivers meeting.
