Ok, so here we go with some last minute info, etc. for this event. this thread will contain most everything you will need to know.
I have the Pig Man (Paul Warner) lined up again for the main course of wonderfully done pig, both b'bqued and regular, for all tastes. In addition to the pork, there will be hot dogs and we will also have burgers. Condiments such as mustard, ketchup (or catsup if you prefer) mayonaisse, relish, salt, pepper, etc., will be provided also.
What we will be needing help with:
Paper products such as plates, etc.
A couple of grilles to both cook and to keep food warm.
Tables to serve the food from.
Whatever you wish to cook up and bring as a side dish or desert. Each and every year, drivers and or their spouses have whipped up some truly great food and brought it to the event, let's see if we can make R&R V even better this year. One thing that might be neat is if someone could whip up some hot dog chili sauce, that makes them really great.
Extras such as little bags of chips or whatever, to go with the food.
In other words, whatever anyone would want to take to, or have at a summer's party.
Ok, now on to some more good stuff. As is always the case, R&R V will showcase the modifieds and the mod drivers in Michigan. It is intended to be a race that all mod drivers want to say they have won.
Winners so far have been: 2005 Bill Luckhurst, 2006 Dick Maurer, 2007 Chris Ozanich, 2008 Leroy Ellis. So who will it be in 2010 ?
The purse has always been good for this race, and with qualifying money to be won also, a mod driver can have a pretty good day, and a pretty good party that night.
Of course, there will be the "Sylvia May Ott Racin' and Rockin' Modified Fast Qualifier Award" for the mods in honor of my wife Mary's mother, which I am starting out this year at $100.00, and may add to it yet. In addition, the annual "Add A Lap Qualifying Pot" for the mod drivers, will add to this purse and spread the money down to at least 5th fast qualifer. Add A Lap as always, allows a driver to check his qualifying time after regular qualifying is done, and decide if he or she wants to go out and try to better their time. I will post the official rules for it in a later post, but suffice it to say, if every mod driver choses to put up the ten dollars per lap (up to two additional laps of qualifying) this purse can and does get very big. In fact, I think the best year for the Sylvia Mae Ott Racin' and Rockin' Mod Fast Qualifier was $300 for the fast qualifier. Not a bad little addition to the night.
And, there are always contingency awards for the mod drivers, anything any fan or crew wants to put up for whatever they want to put it up for, will be welcomed this year as always.
Last year, Racin' and Rockin' was not held for a couple of reasons, we won't rehash bad memories here, but this year, we can make up for that by making Racin' and Rockin' V the biggest and best of them all. The premiere Summer Time Racing Good Time in Michigan.
Worthy of note, 24 mods will start the main Racin' and Rockin' Feature event, and if there are more than 24, I am sure Maurice and I will be able to come up with something for a "B" mod race also.
Also running at Racin' and Rockin', but under the normal rules for Springport Motor Speedway, as it will be a normal points night for them, will be the ABC Venom Stock Car series and the always wonderful Ponies. And to make it even a more special night, the Vintage Race Cars will be there also, putting on a show with wonderfully restored vintage race cars, and some of the old school wheels for those cars.
And motorcycles and the Pink Ribbon Campaign will be there and will be allowed to parade around the track at some point during the night.
What else can we come up with for this event, and yes, it is an event! Start thinking.
As always, camping will be allowed.
And, to top it all off, a mod driver can not only come to Racin' and Rockin' and run on Saturday night for a good purse, he or she can stay the night, party and have a great time, and top it off by running on Sunday along with SuperPro, for yet another good purse. Bill Lackey and his top notch SuperPro Series has rented the track July 18th for one of their mid Michigan dates, and Bill has decided to run the mods that day also, for $600 to win and a good start purse also.
So there you have it, Racin' and Rockin' V, not just a normal race, a weekend of racing, camping, food, and a great party in between.
Now, you tell me, what could be better in the middle of summer than this?
have a good day,

Here are the rules for the "Sylvia Mae Ott Racin' and Rockin" Mod Fast Qualifier" Add A Lap session.
"Add 2 Laps" special qualifying is intended to give you, the driver, a chance to better your time and therefore, your starting position, etc.:
The rules for this session are as follows, no deviations: (keeps me out of trouble that way),
Mods only, you can buy two extra laps for $10 a lap, and if you buy them and don't use them, you don't get your money back.
ALL THE MONEY COLLECTED FOR "ADD A LAP" GETS ADDED TO THE SYLVIA MAE OTT RACIN' AND ROCKIN' MOD FAST QUALIFIER POT.
When Add A Lap session is called, you must be ready. We will give you enough time to get your car in the chute.
You moment you pull on the track in your session, you scratch your qualifying time, no exception, even if you break something.
You run a warm up lap, then you are green.
You can run both laps, or wave off your second, pull in and go straight to the chute, you may not go back to your pit, your crew must be in the chute ready to make any adjustment you feel necessary to quicken your car. There is no exception to this rule, (again, to keep me out of trouble. I've enough other things to do that night, so I really don't want to have to make special decisions, screw it up and anger any fellow racers) You can then go out after the rest of cars have run their chosen lap or laps, to run your second lap. Same drill, warmup lap and you are green.
When you are green, you are green, spin or not.
Your fastest time of your purchased laps will be your official qualifying time for the night. So, you can bump another car out of their spot, or even the field, or give yourself your own bumping out of your spot or even the field.
You must purchase the lap or laps prior to the "Add A Lap" Sessions, and I must have your money in hand before you lineup in the chute.
You cannot go back to your pit between laps, all adjustments must be made by your crew in the chute, so have them there, tools in hand.
We will have the qualifying times listed at the pit shack prior to the add a lap session so you can see where you stack up against your competition, and see what it will take to move yourself up in the qualifying times.
Pay attention to the pit area announcer, as when he calls you up, you gotta go, no exception.
Have a good day,

The Matthew and Rhiannon DeShais Purse Enhancement Competition.
The starting point of this purse enhancement is $100.00. Any money donated to this contest will be added to the class purse for the winners.
It will be called the "You Picked A Fine Time To Leave Me Loose Wheel" competition.
It will also have the "Stay Out Of The Dirt" Bill Lackey Rule.
Here are the rules.
I am providing Hoosier 970's, painted with a different color on it. Each class (Mods, Ponies, Venom Sportsman Series) will get a tire.
The objective is to roll, yes, that means roll, that tire one lap around the track. Simple enough. One lap around the track.
Teams can have as many participants as they can, as long as each team is even, so it could be eight, six, ten, ever how many.
From the start line, you roll the tire towards your fellow team member. You can hand roll it towards them until you get no closer than ten feet, then it must roll on it's own to the next team member. Then, that team member rolls it towards the next team member, same deal, no closer than ten feet.
Important rules:
Tires must roll, cannot be thrown. They must roll, period.
The "Stay Out Of The Dirt" Bill Lackey rule means just that, stay out of the dirt and on the racing surface. If you go in the dirt, you will be black flagged and have to go back to the start line.
There is not going to be a spinner/spinnee rule in this one, so if you are devious and mean and heartless and a dirty tire roller, you can try to take out your competitor's tire.
One more important rule. When the tire is rolling on it's own, the person that the tire is rolling to is the only person that can go and retrieve that tire if it "rolls over", crashes, or in the process of trying to take out another competitor's tire through dirty tire rolling, it falls down.
You can stage your team members anywhere on the track you wish, as long as it is on the racing surface. All of the team members can follow the tire and go ahead to another "tire pick up position" if they want to.
No carrying of the tire, and it cannot leave the racing surface, which means you cannot throw it to your team mate. It must roll.
Other than that, anything goes, even sabotage of another competitor's tire. I won't mention what I mean, but I know this much, mod guys live by the creed, "Old Age And Treachery Beats Youth And Enthusiasm Everytime".
However, remember, a loose wheel means it is not on a car, hence, the name "You Picked A Fine Time To Leave Me Loose Wheel".
You need to hand roll the tire, in other words, your hands must be involved in making the tire roll around the track.
The tire must stay in contact with the racing surface at all times, otherwise you will receive the "Bill Lackey Rule" black flag.
In consideration of the physics involved that I discovered while comparing a mounted tire on a rim and a dismounted tire, I have decided to allow teams to decide whether or not to mount the tire on a rim or not. I will not divulge the results of my testing that I have done.
The competition will take place after the mod "Fast Qualifier Add A Lap" session, shortly before before the National Anthem and the start of the races. Enough time will be given to allow teams to return to their cars and get ready for racing.
It will be announced on the PIT RADIO SYSTEM when teams can come to MY TRAILER, the Official R&R Office, and pick up their Official Rhiannon and Matt Jr.'s Purse Enhancement "You Picked A Fine Time To Leave Me Loose Wheel" competition tire, color coded to the class that will be using it. You will then have TEN MINUTES to take the tire and experiment, test, tune and otherwise think about how to win this competition. When the competition is called, you must immediately head towards the track exit on the back stretch, and spread your team out as you wish, while at the same time taking the tire and the starting "Tire Rolling Competitor' towards the start line in turn Four, where a cone will be set and the race will begin.
Any clarification will be made on this board in this thread if any questions arise. I am the final arbitor and interpreter of compliance with the above written rules, just like any other good "TECH" person.
Let's have some fun with this, and get some more money tossed at it for the purse enhancement for the winning division.
have a good day,

VERY IMPORTANT INFO FOR THE MODIFIED DIVISION!
THERE WILL BE NO ALCOHOL AVAILABLE AT THE TRACK.
PLEASE, FILL YOUR JUGS ON FRIDAY TO BE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH TO GET YOU THROUGH SATURDAY.
I have talked with jim Leasure, and he is willing to meet teams at Spartan Speedway on Sunday Morning to refill your jugs for the Sunday race. Check with me Saturday for the details on getting additional alcohol for Sunday.
We might be able to secure a barrel or two, but that is not known for sure at this time, so be sure to bring enough.
have a good day,

Matt and I are tossing the idea around about adding some more interest and meaning to the qualifying and heat races for the Modified portion of Racin' & Rockin' V. If there is too much opposition to it, then we won't do it. But since this event is special for the Modifieds and nobody is running for any type of track points, and since special events at the end of the season do different things, we felt it might be appropriate to add some more excitement to this one.
There will be a Fast Car Dash, that is already on the schedule. The top 4 qualifiers will run their own 4 lap dash to kick off the racing after the National Anthem.
Now here comes the qualifying/lineup/racing format we are looking at:
Typically, there is a dice roll to decide the invert. In this case, the dice roll will decide where the top 4 start the feature. If a 7 is rolled, the winner of the fast car dash will start 7th. Last place will start 10th. The dice will have the following: 3, 5, 7, 7, 9, 11. So, the top 4 could start anywhere beginning with 3rd on back to 11th, depending on the dice roll. Is 3 too low and is 11 too high? Maybe a dice with 5, 5, 7, 7, 9, 9 is better?
The top 20 qualifiers will be locked into the feature, but their starting positions will be determined by the heat race finishes. From the 5th fastest on back to 20th, the odd numbers will be in one heat and the even numbers will be in another heat. Full inverts of 8 cars in both heats. The winner of the odd heat will start on the pole of the feature. The winner of the even heat will start on the outside front row. The rest of the odd heat will line up on the inside until it meets where the fast 4 are lined up. Then the remainder will line up on the inside behind the fast 4. Same thing with the even heat except they will fill up the outside line.
Positions 21 through 24 will be filled from the top 4 finishers in the B-Main. If there are 28 cars or less, there will be no B-Main and everyone will start the feature. That means that if there is exactly 28 cars showing up, there will be a third 8 car heat and their finishing positions will fill the 21st through 28th spot in the feature. If there is 24 or less cars, then we will add the extra cars to the first two heats. If there is more than 28 cars, there will be a B-Main and the top 4 will advance to the feature and there will be 24 cars starting the feature. The B-Main lineup will invert the top 6 cars.
The better you finish in your heat race, the farther up you will start in the feature. A heat race should be more than just a hot lap session. I like the idea, Matt seems to like it. I think the fans would like it. The announcer will have more fun calling the heat races.
Any drivers opposed to this? If not, then this is how it will go.

Matt, I'm not sure what all we can bring, but I can bring some tables and my wife will put together some other items as well. I can bring out my grill if it's still needed. Just let me know and I will bring it out.
Thanks for putting this show on. Racin & Rockin is always a blast. _________________ Thanks,
