I see when I jumped over to the mstrc web site the post was also put up that some owosso guys where distipointed about the manual trans.. you should rethink it. Every car that shows up has at least two paying people with it.. 3 or 4 more cars is atleast 120 more a night ..I know not alot untill you add in food and 20 night of racing.

Those guys are talking about their RWD Mini Stocks, not FWD cars.

If we have 4-cylinder OPEN events on Sundays in 2007, they will most likely be allowed to run with our Pony Stocks. But I can't say for sure until the schedule is posted.

The "no manual trans" rule applies to our normal Pony Stocks.

Now my question Is what about us non owosso guys? And I thought owosso ran both fwd and rwd together? So there fwds are all autos? you wouldn't get a single racer down from there? what about the crystal drivers? they run fwd sticks? you don't want them to play on fridays?

Hi Ed,

What about you? When we run an Open Invitational, we don't limit the invite to just one track. Mottville cars would be invited as well.

Yes they do, but what does that have to do with our rules?

I think most of their FWD cars are Spartan Pony stocks.

No, not on Fridays. We run normal Pony Stock rules on Fridays. It is only on Sundays when we might run an Open Invitational. And besides, in 2006, we took away the 'invite' aspect of the Sunday shows for the 4-cylinders and made it Pony Stock only. We did that because the outside cars weren't coming anyway. A couple of cars showed up at the first invite, but that was about it.

Even when we do run an Open Invitational for the 4-cylinders, we might require outside cars to add weight or limit their tires, etc. As an example, a FWD 4-cylinder with a stick shift might have to add 50-100 lbs.

But we won't do that on a normal Friday night. On those nights, no stick shifts, period.

I-96 is going to have the same 4 cylinder rules as Crystal's and they run Friday nights.

One thing I forgot to mention that we decided on at the rules meeting concerns the points championships, and it concerns all classes.

Prior to championship night, you will throw out your two worst nights. This can also be two nights that you were not able to show up.

You can't throw out championship night. That night counts no matter what.

Go ahead and schedule your vacation time without worrying about the points battle. Likewise, don't be too worried if you have a couple of bad nights of racing.

There are a lot of new documents posted for 2007. Go to the home page of spartanspeedway.com and click on "Info". You'll find a lot of new stuff there.

Also, the 2007 rulebook will be posted in the Info section sometime this weekend. Keep an eye out for it.

Here's a new rule from the rulebook:

****************************************
If you are found to be racing one quarter second under your qualifying time for any 2 laps in any event, you will be penalized one lap at that point in time. You will be allowed to continue racing and will not receive any further penalty. However, you will start the remainder of your day's events from the rear of the starting field. Top four qualifiers are exempt from break out times.

****************************************

Here's a typical scenario which will help explain how this works:

Let's say a driver shoots into the lead and then breaks out. He gets one lap
taken away at that point and the second place car becomes the leader.
The driver is not really a lap down, but with one lap taken away, he is
actually just in front of the leader and not quite a lap down. He would be
the last car on the lead lap.

Because of this infraction, he is now exempt and may continue racing as fast
as he wants just like the top four qualifiers.

If a yellow comes out, the field will bunch up and the driver will come
around to the tail end of the field. If he's fast enough, he still has a
chance to drive through the field to challenge the leaders.

At this point, he would be in the same position as if he had scratched his
qualifying time and started at the rear.

The nice thing about this is the driver gets to race rather than having to
go to the pits.

The 2007 rulebook is now online.

Go to the spartanspeedway.com home page and click on "Info". There you'll find two versions, one is a PDF file that you can download and view on screen or print out. The other is a "clickable" online version that allows you to navigate around the rulebook.

I see that the battery location rule was not changed for FWD Pure's. Was this just overlooked or is this rule going to stand. Having to relocate the battery may interfere with the electrical operations. Please allow FWD Pure's to leave the batteries in the stock location. See you at the meetings.

If I remember right, we had talked about the battery location and I think we decided to allow it to remain in the original stock location on FWD cars. I'll check with Jim and Chuck to verify that and if so, I'll see that it gets edited into the rulebook.

There could still be further edits to the rulebook to fix typos and omissions or to clarify portions of it, but basically it's all there and correct.

I would like to thank our staff and in particular Maurice for all of their time and commitment in getting these updated rules and misc. forms out before the end of the year. In my mind the season starts when the necessary information for the upcoming season is made available. I think the format Maurice chose for the rules is as good as I have seen. The ability to click where you want to be instead of searching is a very nice improvement. Every one associated with Spartan is entitled to accurate, clear and timely info. and I think that has been provided. As far as the schedule, we hope to have that available around the end of January. From Paul, Jim and our entire staff, Merry Christmas.

The battery rule for FWD and RWD Pure Stocks and the Pony Stocks has been rewritten to allow for the battery to remain in the factory location provided it is a safe location.
