Fuel is available at the track, Spartan has scales, and or get with another driver at the track who has scales to get with them and arrange to have them scale it for you.

Hi Jerry. If you are able, bring some weight along with you that can be attached with at least 2 bolts.

If you are unable to bring weight, often times you can borrow some.

Regardless of anything else, we'll figure something out to help you. You won't have to sit out unless there is a serious issue that we cannot help resolve (safety #1). As you get going in the Pony class, you will begin to get things figured out...in the meantime, have fun and be safe.

MOST radcing fuel conatins LEAD and lots of it.

O2 sensors on factory Fuel injected cars will get ruined by the LEADEd fuel.

runn leaded racing fuel in your neon and you will/may have big problems with the engine computer control.

Just run preimium UN-Leaded PUMP gas from a local gas station.

Racing fuel is just HIGH octain fuel for HIGH compression engines,,,You engine was made to run on regular Unleaded gas.

there are Unleaded racing fuels that have oxygen power boosters in them ,, but that may be Illeagal.


Just like adding NITRO to you fuel would be ,,,

but they can easily check for nitro in the fuel with a low cost hydrometer

Jerry, we ran racing fuel in our Neon and never had any problem with it, we ran it to help with stopping detonation from happening. As far as O2 sensors, we never ran them, and we had no problems. We had 7 heat race wins and 1 feature win last year. You could always try a 50/50 mix as well.

Hi Jerry, I just used Premium fuel from Sunoco in my car. I tried the racing fuel but there was no difference in lap times. The best way to decide is run racing fuel one week then the next week use premium from the pump and then compare lap times. Good Luck

Racing Fuel offers no performance advantage over 86 octane pump gas in a stock motor.

Anyone you see running racing fuel is doing it because they are running a high compression (aka - illegal) motor.

Nobody buys $6.00+ racing fuel just because..

I've ran race fuel in my car for 4 years now. The old Daytona I ran had the timing cranked way up and would miss on pump gas.

My neon have never showed a need for race fuel but for an extra 8-10 bucks I like the insurance. Running 7k rpms and 235 degrees is a recipe for detonation.

110 will kill your O2 sensor over time. I have had one go out in 3 years on 2 cars. Ran only on leaded race fuel. Don't let it scare ya.

You will NOT make any more HP on race gas, it is cheap insurance though.

Don't worry about being called a cheater if ya run it just because. If your not accused of cheating your not doing something right!

If running 110 octane doesn't make a difference in HP or shows a need for it...then why waste the 8-10 bucks on it....doesn't make sense to me.
Put the extra 8-10 bucks towards something that will make a difference..

I run it for the exact word you also quoted. Insurance. It's a resistance to detonation, last year I had temps over 240 a couple nights. I would rather spend 2 bucks more a gallon and know I can have a safety margin.

I am merely letting jerry know it can be done. Everyone seemed to tell him its a waste, it will hurt the car, don't be stupid. Beings that I run it I thought I would share the positives too.

I see what your saying Todd, but if Im not mistaken the knock sensor allows the engine to run with the ignition timing as far advanced as possible. The computer will continue to advance the timing until the knock sensor detects pinging. At that point the computer retards the ignition timing just enough for the pinging to stop. A knock sensor assures that you're getting as much power and fuel as is possible from your engine. You might want to check your knock sensor and make sure its working.

If the knock sensor is detecting pinging, that would mean the engine is experiencing detonation. At 7,000rpm even a few pings could mean major damage.

I would rather run 110 race fuel and not have my knock sensor detect anything, then run 92 and have the sensor pull timing.

BTW just a fun fact. Len Ayala was able to power his 800hp Turbo Neon using a bone stock computer. He tricked the computer into pulling timing by using the Knock sensor. This was way back in 1999, the car would run 10.1 seconds in the quarter mile and be driven back home! There is no way to trick the sensor into adding timing, but it can be used as a way to pull timing!!
