The 4th annual Michigan Short Track Racing Club Bowling Tournament is just over a month away. The annual bench racing extravaganza for the short track racing community in the state of Michigan is once again fast approaching and promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The fourth edition of the MSTRC Bowling Tournament will be held at the brand new Capitol Bowl in downtown Owosso, Michigan on Saturday February 10, 2007. This years tournament will benefit two members of the racing community in the Great Lakes State.

The first benefactor is Verwayne Greenhoe of Sheridan, Michigan. Greenhoe, the Founder/Owner of Races on the Web.com and the webmaster of the Crystal (MI) Motor Speedway website as well as over 100 other drivers and racing related sites, has been battling an enormous amount of health problems over the last several years, yet continues to fulfill his obligations to the racing community.

The second benefactors will be the Persails family of Flint, Michigan. Mini Stocks Drivers, Gerry Persails Sr., and Gerry Persails Jr. Persails Jr., recently lost his son, Robert on December 31, 2006 due to an illness. In addition, Persails Sr., was involved in a car accident and is currently recovering at home.

This years benefactors was decided by the membership of the Michigan Short Track Racing Club as Nominations were presented on the MSTRC message board and decided on by members of the MSTRC Bowling Tournament Committee.

As for the fourth edition of the bowling tournament., Sign in will begin at “High Noon” and after drawing for partners, bowling will start at approximately 1:15pm. A $10 donation is all it costs to join in on the fun and all participants will bowl Two Games.

Following the 4th edition of the bowling tournament, the Awards Ceremony is set for approximately 3:30pm in the bowling alleys’ adjacent lounge, “Capitol Bowl Hot Spot”. After the Awards Ceremony, there will be some exciting racing action on T.V. to kick off the 2007 season also in the immaculate Capitol Bowl Hot Spot, which is the Bar and Grill located on the premises. Everyone is invited to stay and watch some racing on the giant Big Screen Television as well as bench race with the racing community.

The ARCA Re/Max Series will be at the Daytona (FL) International Speedway for the 44th annual Daytona 200 at 4:00pm on SpeedTV and then later that night will be the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, Bud Shootout, also from Daytona at approximately 8:00pm on FOX.

Also of note, patrons do not have to bowl to participate! Everyone is encouraged to come out and support this annual event. There will be numerous door prizes to be given away throughout the afternoon as well as 50/50 drawings and several special prizes to be distributed.

The all new Capitol Bowl was a victim of a devastating electrical fire on January 19, 2006. After a spring and summer of rebuilding by Sascon Construction, headed by Michigan Motorsports Hall of Famer, Tim Felver! Capitol Bowl reopened to rave reviews on October 7, 2006!

The immaculate bowling alley is located at 219 South Washington Street behind the J.C. Penny’s store in Downtown Owosso, Michigan. For more information about Capitol Bowl, log onto their website at; http://www.capitolbowl.net

In addition, several Michigan area speed plants have already stepped up to the plate as the Auto City Speedway, Owosso Speedway, and Spartan Speedway are both already on board. Plus the Wednesday night “Race Talk” Radio Show on WFNT 1470am in Flint, Michigan will also be participating. “Race Talk” is on the air every Wednesday night from 7-9pm.

More sponsors already on board include; Terry Bogusz, Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club, Rick and Jennie Miracle, R.V. Performance, Chris Throgmartin, Triton Motorsports, and the tournament hosts Capitol Bowl and Capitol Bowl Hot Spot.

The MSTRC Bowling Tournament was started in 2004 as a way for the racing community in the great auto racing state of Michigan to get together over the winter and bowl for a great cause. The MSTRC Bowling Tournament is now the biggest fund raiser in the State of Michigan for racing families in need.

The first year of the bowling tournament, saw veteran Modified driver in Eastern Michigan, Buck Harsen, benefit from the generosity of the Michigan Short Track Racing community after Harsen lost his home, garage, and race cars in a tragic fire in January 2004.

The 2nd annual event, held back on February 12, 2005, benefitted two more family members in the racing community. Michael Putnam, who raced the 2005 season with the Short Track Trucks.com Challenge series, lost his wife, Stacey in September 2004.

Plus the owners of the Mt. Pleasant (MI) Speedway in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, Betty and Mario Crook, lost the patriarch of the family, Dick Crook, also in the Fall of 2004. In total $1102 was raised meaning that both the Putnam and Crook families received a total of $551.

During the 3rd edition of the MSTRC Bowling Tournament, which was held on February 11, 2006 at the Tri-Ami Lanes in Ovid, Michigan, $1120.00 was raised and $560 apiece went to the two benefactors.

The first benefactor was the family of the late Paul Bouwman, who passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2005 as a result of fatal explosion at his home. Bouwman was the 2004 Michigan Modified Association (MMA) State Dirt Points Champion as well as the 2004 MMA Champion at the Thunderbird (MI) Raceway Park. Surviving are his wife, Barbara and one son, Drue.

The second benefactor was well known to the Michigan Short Track Racing world; The General Manager and P.A. Announcer at the Auto City (MI) Speedway, the late Greg Yost, who passed away on August 9, 2006. Yost was a veteran P.A. Announcer of such Michigan facilities in years past as the Dixie Motor Speedway, Owosso Speedway, and Spartan Speedway.

As for the 2006 bowling tournament, the winners were: Team High Series, Ed Inloes and Dale Weaver, Men’s High Series, Rick Carter, Men’s High Game, Wayne Beckner Jr., Women’s High Series, Elaine Prieur, Women’s High Game, Amanda Maurer, and the Chris Throgmartin Never Give Up Award went to Jimmy Scavarda.

Verwayne Greenhoe, who’s one of the two benefactors for the 2007 edition of the MSTRC Bowling Tournament, was the winner of the Chris Throgmartin Spirit award for his contributions to short track racing in the state of Michigan. Jay Woolworth and Don Colbath won the 50/50 drawings and both generously gave their winnings back to the MSTRC Committee to be used for the two benefactors!

A special thanks once again to all the donations and sponsors of the bowling tournament who all helped make the third edition a success. Beginning with the MSTRC Bowling Committee of; Brenda and Chuck Darling, Linda and Ed Inloes, and Elaine and Matt Prieur.

Well, personally, I'm very happy with our selection of benefactors, and I hope all of you members are too.

There were many great candidates, but at the end of the day, we felt that if we had members of the MSTRC that were in need, that it made the most sense to try and help some of our very own. Now that doesn't mean that others might not have been worthy of our cause, it just says that we felt that the opportunity to be able to help "our own", seemed the most logical, we hope everyone here agrees with our logic.

Now that everything is in place, we need to start seeing some sponsors, race teams, whoever, step up in the donations department. In the next couple weeks, many racing facilities will be contacted, and many other racing organizations too. But we will not be contacting any "teams" for donations, that is entirely up to you!!!! With our benefactors well known throughout the MSTRC, and local racing communities, I look at the 4th Annual tournament to be one of the biggest ever!!!! I feel pretty certain the benefactors, and their families should be present on this day, and we really need to step up and do everything we can to raise as much as we can, to help a couple of our very own MSTRC Families!!!!

All the information you could possibily need is right here as far as the tourny goes, if not, just ask, and we'll answer. Please clear this date on your calender, and plan to come out and have a great afternoon of fun, with the members from the "Lil club that COULD"!!!!!!

Loud and PROUD to be part of the MSTRC Family!!!!!!

Well folks, my tournament is only 9 days away, and I haven't really heard a thing from my Spartan/Springport Family here. This is disappointing to me. This bowling tournament has helped one of our very own in the past, Mike Putnum, and many others throughout Michigan that have ties to our racing community. The past 3 years, we've built quite a fundraiser, that ALL of us should be proud of. Many different tracks have donated passes and/or items to give away, including Jim Leasure who has graciously donated passes, as he has every year. This bowling tournament is a great opportunity to get out and communicate with our Michigan racing family in the dead middle of winter. The new location this year, the brand new Capitol Bowl in downtown Owosso, is a state of the art facility that will offer all of us a chance to bench race and watch some Daytona action once we've finished bowling. So many prizes to give away, it will be hard to NOT walk away with something.

In the past, the support that I got from the Spartan folks was always huge. This year, I'm hardly seeing anything. Bums me out some. I hope that maybe some of you are planning on attending, and just haven't posted anything about it, yet. If you can't make it on that particular Saturday, there are still ways to involve yourself through some donations. Please either post here, or PM me if you are interested.

Really hope to hear from, and/or see some of you great folks soon!!!

well,

I'll be there, cheering on someone. Who knows, if I can move, I may even pick up a ball and give it a shot. Back in the day, I carried a 188 average, won't be getting there now.

I will offer this as a challenge, provided I can bowl.

If anyone has a more unique five step approach than mine, judged by an impartial observer, I will put another $20.00 into my original donation amount of $50.00 towards the benefit.

No fair changing your five step for this tourney, gotta be your natural one.

(I was told often when I bowled competitively that my approach was, let's just say, one of the most unusual, but effective, ones that most had seen)

have a good day,

schinde

Patrick, i would suggest not taking on the beckners....although you did put a limit on how much you had to pay right? All for a good cause at least.
