Bruce Jones, one of our Street Stock/Pony Stock drivers is in the hospital today for some scheduled surgery.
Bruce has had a tumor growing in his jaw and surgeons are working on him today. The surgery will last about 10-12 hours. They are removing much of his lower jaw. They are also removing a bone in one of his legs to be used to rebuild his jaw.
This is a very serious operation that Bruce is undergoing.

Bruce's surgery is taking place @ the University of Michigan hospital. As Maurice mentioned this is a 10-12 hour surgery...and without any complications Bruce would be expected to be in the hospital for about 12 days. As I understand it because he will not have any lower teeth immediately following surgery he will not be able to chew or eat solid food for awhile. As a result he will have a feeding tube as well as a trach tube. Bruce will be off of work for at least 5 weeks. I will provide updates here once there is more news.

I just learned that Bruce's surgery started yesterday (Thursday) morning @ 9am...and that it did not finish up until 6AM THIS MORNING - 23 HOURS!!!!!! They ended up not taken a bone from his lower leg or his hip to replace his lower jaw bone, rather they ended up using one of his ribs. I was told that Bruce would be kept in a semi-coma for a couple of days...and that he could be moved to intensive care later today. This is serious stuff. That is all I have at the moment...more will follow when I hear anything.

I just spoke with Bruce's father. Bruce is now in ICU and apparently all went well. Because he is ICU he is unable to receive and cards, etc. @ this time. Eventually when he is moved to a standard room I will post that information here for everyone including that address for hospital, room number, etc.

To Bruce & Family, I'm just checking in. I don't usually post comments but I felt the need, like your friends here; to comment today. I was very glad to hear everything went well during surgery, or they wouldn't have put you in ICU. I'm sure when you get back home with yer family, you'll be looking at the message board an realize just how many people were actually there with you, the whole time. So hang in there and hurry back! The seasons nearly upon us!

I have a short request...and that is when you post here to the post about Bruce's surgery and recovery, may I suggest that at the end of your post you put your full name(s) in order that it is clear who is submitting the post. It would kinda be like signing a letter that you have written. In that way it will make it easier for Bruce and his family to decipher who has sent him best wishes. Thanks for your consideration.
Also, as it will be quite a while before Bruce will get to use a computer, please feel free to send a card or anything else to him at:

Jim Clark had trouble posting last night, so he asked me to post this message for him:
*****************************************************************
I've now learned that Bruce had a very rough time both Friday and
Saturday nights. As you can imagine he is in immense pain. On top
of that I was told that shortly after waking up Sunday morning that
he had a heart attack and was "gone" for about a minute. Bruce's
fiance, Amy, and his sister are both staying right there @ the
hospital while his father is driving back and forth between Lansing
and Ann Arbor each day. Please keep Bruce and his family, which
includes 6 children, in your thoughts and prayers.
Jim Clark
*****************************************************************
Hang in there Bruce.

I received a quick update this morning regarding Bruce. They "woke" him up this morning and that apparently went well. I was told that they got him out of bed for the first time since his surgery and had him walk a short distance in the hallway outside his room. Although this is going to be a long recovery the progress made so far today is very encouraging. I still do not have an information as to whether he is yet in a regular room...but will post that once I hear for sure.
