| hey everyone i was just wondering if there was any chance of doing a spartan/springport hall of fame? i was looking at berlins site and they've got a hall of fame set up with a few people in it. if there was a hall of fame at spartan you could do a special Hall of Fame Night and do somehting and get some extra people to come to the track. don't do anything over the top, but just something. i know of a lot of drivers that had great racing careers that should be repayed with something not much just a little something. it's just a thought since it's 3:30am and i can't sleep lol. |

I would say yes to a Spartan Hall of Fame, but Springport hasn't been around long enough for that. Berlin limits the number of people going in every year and any driver nominated has to be retired from driving for at least 5 years. I think Berlin does 3-5 people a year. _________________ Keith

i agree with Mr. Parish.
our racing nights are not being viewed by millions of people all over the country, so if something truely amazing happend one night or through the course of a season, it could easily get lost in history if it goes too long without being recorded. Example: two or three drivers are battling hard for the lead, its the last lap, they get together coming out of 4, and someone finishes the race on their lid. Or, better yet, somone wins the race on thier lid. Or, what about Jimmy's 13 feature wins at Spartan last year? all of our drivers will shine brightly at one time or another, and those moments should be frozen in time for all to see and remember anytime. maybe we should have two halls of fame. one for amazing feats on the track, and one for those drivers that just shine throughout their whole career. Any thoughts? TIM _________________ nastyboi |

| The Hall of Fame would be a great Idea for a track that has been around for over fifty years such as Spartan. As Keith pointed out, Springport is too new. Normally Hall of Fames are restricted for atheletes who have been retired for 5 years. If there is a Spartan Speedway Hall of Fame, it could be like the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame and include drivers or other's who have been involved for at least 25 years. This would include people like Paul or Ron Parrish for example. You could limit it to 3 or 4 people per year or by percentages like baseball (I would rather do the 3 or 4 thing as that would be much easier). One problem would be how the choose the nominee's and how to vote on them? It could be a combintion form the internet and from the fans at the track. The next problem would be restricting the vote - one vote per person for each nominee so a person could not run up the votes for their own favorite driver. How could this be done? Another posibility would be to have a board to choose the nominee's and then let people vote on them on the ineternet and at the track for the first 3/4's of the season and then have them recognised at the Havest races. This way they and/or their families could be present. Just some thoughts. Marty Blume |

I remember a while back on this topic, we all were dicussing why Springport was cursed with small crowds and a victim of brief closings, some of us decided that it was due to the "newness" of the track. It hasnt had the chance to create its history yet. i still agree with that mostly beekuzz the other tracks were around when racing was in its infancy. the men who bavely took on these tracks and pioneered the "how to's" on how to get around them faster than anyone else were all making the sport what it is today. Old tracks such as Jackson and Owosso saw many changes and many driving styles over the years. Both tracks saw the days when the 1/2 mile dirt track was the place to race, and they saw the transition to 3/8 and 1/4 mile paved ovals. Each style and change brought on new history. Now, having said that, Springport was built after the pioneering days of racing. so, in my opinion, our track will have to create its hisory off the way it is operated, and the attractions that we add to our program, and most importantly EVERY driver that graces her high banks. for example: Has anyone ever had a vision like Muarice and actually pull it off before? i think we will be doing alot of things this year that are new and away from the way a track is traditionally run. THIS IS HISTORY IN THE MAKING PEOPLE! This first season under Muarices' controll should be documented to the fullest, and everyone involved should be highlighted or honored in some way, and it should be treated like a "Hall Of Fame" deal for the track. If this works well this season, we may have changed the way tracks all over the country are operated and it may mean the difference between surviving or closing. This is why I think its important to have two hall of fames. One that is done in a traditional way, and one that is our tribute to ALL of our drivers and staff. Look guys, we are making history here and as Muarice said at the meeting " this is Springport, and we can do whatever we want." If we do things that no one has tried or has the @#lls to try, and make them work, the sky is the limit. Who says we have to be traditional in the way we honor tradition?
