Steve,
I definitely feel your pain. I spent fifty bucks (25 pit pass, 25 fuel) to make 30, and dragged a wrecked car home as well.
I want to remind you that the pure stock class was meant to be a low buck class, and it was known up front that payouts wouldn't be stellar. It was really nice to finally be able to race against you and I hope it won't be your last time at spartan, even though the pay is a little soft.
For myself it may take a couple weeks to get back out due to the damage from being run over like an ugly cat, but we will soldier on low pay and all. |

| Imagine how I felt, I destroyed an awesome race car that I had spent 3 years tuning and figuring out, and now I have to start over, and I got $20 for the night. But even when I was fast qualifer, won the heat and took second in the feature I only got $75. But keep in mind, if we built race cars to make money we would have never built them. |

| We all know that we don't race to make money, but it's pretty sad when Springport on a bad night is paying better than Spartan on an awesome night, and treating their drivers better. I've heard from a few different drivers that they are not coming back to spartan. Too many people got their cars tore up, and figure it's better to go race at Springport or someplace else and make a little more money or the same, and not get tore up, and have a better chance of winning. I was very disappointed with a few things that happened on Sunday. The pay was one of them. How do you just decide the day of the race that you are cutting the payouts? I think if some of the drivers knew, they wouldn't have shown up, especially those figure 8 drivers. And another thing was the figure 8 race. I saw that 80x car hit quite a few people, and purposely beat on one guy in particular (74), and no one did much about it. And then to hear that the officials were mad at the 74's driving. If you ask me, 74 was trying to drive clean, and 80x wouldn't stay off of him. I think that is ridiculous. I don't know about what anyone else saw, but I would love to see a tape of that race to try and figure out what in the world the officials were talking about...If anyone has a copy, PLEASE let me know. I understand that it's a figure 8, but what is crossing the line as far as driving?? It seemed on Sunday that there was no limit as to what those guys could do to each other out there. I am very unhappy with what happened on Sunday, and I highly doubt that our car will be back for any racing at Spartan Speedway. |

This is just from a race fan!!!
I loved the racing Sunday! It was wonderful to watch all of the races. I am sorry some of you are upset with the pay, but as a fan I want to thank each one of you for a great show! I am sorry some of your cars got tore up, but as the saying goes thats racing. I for one love to see a big car count and wish it was that way everyweek. I don't mind the figure 8's, but I am a big fan of regular short track racing!
Good luck to you all and I for one hope to see you back!
Thanks again for a great night of raicng,
Denise |

The payout for the Figure 8's at Spartan is $750 to win and $100 to start. Call Flat Rock Speedway or Dixie Speedway and ask for their Figure 8 payout. The rules of Flat Rock and Toledo cars are more open and are a lot more costly than the Spartan 8's but Im sure you will find out at even $750, you will be running for almost double of what they do. And
they have a full field of cars. |

It was good racing with ya Brian, to bad circumstances didn't turn out well. We burned a plug wire and one fell off during the feature. We were running on 6 cylinders. Hope your car is alright. looked pretty tore up. _________________ ~~~~Steve "Big Daddy" Orta~~~~

Hi Steve,
Here is what the rules say about the pay off.
SECTION 6
PRIZE MONEY
a) A guaranteed purse shall be posted for all contested Spartan races.
b) The driver shall receive all race money payable in race competition unless other arrangements have previously been made. Any prize money not picked up on race night will be mailed on the following Monday. Spartan official in charge shall distribute the prize money. Driver money will be paid and reported on 1099 individually unless prior letter is on file to have all money paid and charged to another tax ID number.
And here is what the posted guaranteed pay off is for the Pures.
Pure Stocks
1. 100
2. 60
3. 45
4. 45
5. 40
6. 40
7. 40
8. 40
9. 40
10. 40
11. 35
12. 35
13. 35
14. 30
15. 30
16. 30
17. 25
18. 25
19. 25
20. 25
Heats: 15/10/5/5
In years past at Managements disgression they could lower the payoff if there was a low car count. It used to be in the rule book but I cant seem to find it in this years book.
Do I agree with it? NO. Im a firm believer that you shouldnt penilize the guys that make an effort to put on a good show.
See ya Saturday

| I did not want to comment on this board until I had proof of what I had thought all along. Now I have the tape of the figure 8 race, and I feel I can make an educated response. On about lap 3 the 74 car drove right into the 80 and they locked up. If the 80 was such a dirty driver as everyone is saying, why wouldn't he spin him out there? On about lap 19, the 74 car took turn one way high (almost looked like he would hit the wall) and the 80 car went to pass. The 74 car did NOT spin out until the 80 was pass his drivers door (I do believe that is the acceptable passing rule), at which point the 80 was commited and there was nothing to be done, was he supposed to slow down so he could get wrecked by the 74? I don't think so, they were racing weren't they? Or was I mistaken and this was a follow the leader drive? After watching the tape and seeing the banging going on, BY ALL DRIVERS, it's no wonder they only get 8 cars. As to the accident between the 80 and 0 cars, this one was a no brainer. YES, the 80 car tapped the 0 going around turn one, this was because (as you can see on the tape) the 0 car got in the mud at the turn and slowed way down. As for when the 0 car broke (an axle?), the 80 car wasn't even by him, no cars were. I believe he did that one all by himself. I was also wondering on a different thread, someone had stated that if he was Ray he would have "cleaned his clock", so just so I am understanding this correctly, it's not okay to race as hard as you can to win (isn't that the point?), but when someone pisses you off it is okay to get out of your car in the middle of the track and try to sucker punch someone through the window? I have always be taught that two wrongs don't make a right, maybe your math is a little different. Once again, this is just my educated opinion, has anyone else seen the tape? I'm going to try to figure out how to post the video online, and as soon as I do I will post it on here. |
