I am looking for input from the pony drivers for an idea I have for a special race.

The race would be a "date race", and would involve a 10 to 12 lap race where half the race would be run by the regular pony driver and the other half of the race would be run by the driver's spouse/significant other.

The format could be done in a number of ways, but what I am thinking is that the cars involved would be lined up based on the qualifying time from the regular show, then the race would be run in two segments; one for all the regular drivers followed by a five minute break then a second segment for the spouses/significant others.

If we did this toward the end of the season, it would allow people to prepare, plus give us time to find what we could for special prizes (in lieu of purse money)

Special prizes I am thinking of would be things a couple would do on a date; such as movie passes, Hotel reservations, dinners at nice restraunts, etc.

The things I would like to know are

1. Who would be interested in participating in this type of race?

2. Thoughts on other types of prizes we could have. (Does anyone have
any connections to line up some cool stuff?)

3. Thoughts on the format above.

I have talked with Maurice and a couple other people who think it is a cool idea. What do you all think?

Sounds like a neat idea...but I have a question...

What about the officials racing and the wives/significant other of them doing something like that ...Brenda, would you be gamed to try it...
Sometimes the officials that work hard at the tracks would like to try their skills out there too...just a thought.

Single racers are covered under the "significant others" part of the deal. This means drivers boyfriend/girlfriend could go in place of a husband/wife. It is also why Danica can't race with Patrick, as I HIGHLY doubt they have ever met, much less dated.

An official's race is another Idea we could consider putting in place. We could have the racers take our places in the tower, spotter's stands and tech barns. Call it "role reversal" night. Good Idea

Great ideas people! Im game for whatever and I think my girl would enjoy it. however, we would need to arrange for some tracktime for everyone involved so we can have a safe race.

There is no date set for this yet. It is still in the information gathering stage, but if it happens it will be later in the season (August???) so we have time to prepare it and do it up right.

Don't worry about being single. Since it will be called a "date race", I'm sure you will have no trouble getting a date for that night. That would be one of the most interesting first dates anyone could go on.

Sorry guys, Danica can't drive unless she brings her own pony and her husband (yes she is married) drives with her.

And Tim Sorrow.....don't you even dare bring up any type of driving naked involving this event

shoot I have known her longer than her husband....there should be some "signifigance" for that....and trust me I know plenty of married people who also have a significant other LOL
