I'm not saying it is an easy situation to be in nor am I saying bring them back in the middle of the year that wouldn't make any sense either. I was thinking more along the lines at getting something solid together for at the earliest next season but more then likely a couple years down the road.

Everyone knows it's tough to get a track going and to get it back to racing again even tougher, however they are doing a great job.

or even for the special shows maybe.

what about limited lates, I'm not sure how many are actually around but for those that remember they were at one time the top class out there..

Being racers everyone involved from fans to the sponsors realize it is a tough road for everyone that has to open their wallets to this sport. But it is going to take the ones like the Finley family and many others that have made this sport such an important part of their lives. I have nothing but respect for all of them.

Anything that I can do to help I'd be glad to.

At this point we would need to bring in some pretty heavy hitting sponsorship to get the late models next year.

We have great track sponsors for this year already in Beacon Sales, Engine Pro, and Old Mill Restaraunt. They have been great to work with and are appreciated immensely. However Late model support would almost need to be supported at a smaller corporate level, like Meijer (although Meijer did step up with support last week, thanks!), or Spartan Foods. If anyone has connections, please get with Maurice now so we can get something cooking for next year. I just don't know who is going to put up something like 100 grand for a season's worth of late model racing, although it would be nice.

Bill Spingport is in the middle of no where.Back in the day when latemodels where in abundunce there was some great racing there.I believe the only way to get back there is thru specials like everyone else is doing but still the threat of low fan attendance would be high on my thoughts.Know matter who you are you first must put up a purse to draw them in and then promote the hell out if it to make it pay off.Like any thing in life you only get out of it what ya out in to it.The cost to have supers is not as outrageous as everyone makes it out to be.My heart is with spartan and thats all i have time for is to work with jim and others to get that where it needs to be.I feel we have made major gains towards next year and can only hope it becomes a reality.28 different drivers have wondered thru the gates this year in supers. We need to figure out how to get 20 of them every week to compete and i feel we will.

Jeff, I just don't agree with the out in the middle of no where description. Perhaps if the name were changed to Lansing Speedway, Jackson Speedway, or maybe Battle Creek Speedway people would then think that it is probably within 20-30 miles. The only problem is that the track is not associated with any large city. Angola Speedway is in Fremont Indiana, 20 miles from Angola on county roads. Kalamazoo is west and north of Kalamazoo some 15 - 20 miles. Spartan was 15 miles from Lansing when it was built, and no freeways. Berlin is in Marne 20+ miles the other side of Grand Rapids. M-40 is on a highway, but more than 20 miles from any large city. Springport Motor Speedway is within 15 miles of I-69, 18 miles to I-94, 25 miles to I-96 in Lansing, 25 miles or less to Battle Creek, Marshall, Jackson, Lansing, Charlotte, Mason and all the small towns around, but only about 5 miles off of State Highway M-99 on all paved roads in Calhoun County, across the road from Jackson County and within 1/2 a mile of Eaton County. I have been to many tracks that would be considered much more out in the middle of nowhere than SMS, but most where not as nice as Springport.

As i said before these are my opinions and are not ment to be argumenative. If you look 99% of those tracks they are just off the freeway or major roads with high exposure or a deep history in racing.Lets just keep this post about spartan and do one thing at a time.Sorry if i used the wrong words.

Jeff, I don't mean to be argumentative. It is just that many of us are trying to get Springport back as a viable race facility. I am trying to dispell the idea that this track is out in the sticks. It is less than 30 miles away every city in the area. I hope your quest for late models continues to go well.

Question : if I spend 50 minutes on an interstate and then 5 minutes on a paved secondary road versus 50 minutes on a paved secondary road and 5 minutes on a paved country road... which one takes longer ?

50 minutes on a paved secondary road and 5 minutes on a paved country road would seem like it was longer

you all have been asking where are the racers. racing is not a easy sport to get into have to the money to put into a car and a place to work on it. my dad would love to into racing but has many problems in doing that. he has asking for help and got none. he could be on the track next season if he could find some help. getting some help seem to be a really big if
