I won't claim to have checked all the schedules for all the local short tracks, but it seems to me that there isn't much scheduled on Sundays. It seems to me that Sunday afternoons would be an ideal time for short track racing and would give both racers and fans a third opportunity to come out to watch the show on a weekend.

Except for a few special events, like the Michigan Cup, there doesn't seem to be any Sunday racing, and I wonder why. Blue laws? Competition from TV, specifically NASCAR (despite the yawners they've had recently)? Something else?

Wes,
Traditionally Saturday night race tracks are the most successful. There are some successful Friday races tracks. Sunday has been tried by several race tracks including Owosso, Galesburg and Springport. What ever the reason, Sunday race tracks don't seem to be very successful. It could be that people have spent there recreational money before Sunday gets here or maybe it is just that work commences again for most people on Monday morning.

Sunday tracks are out there but there viability is sometimes precarious at best.

The township Spartan is located in only allows for one Sunday show a month. Also, across the street from the track is a church and that is why we can't start any earlier when we do race on Sundays. Oooh, and don't forget some of the neighbors around Spartan...the ones that don't like the noise do what they can to make it difficult for us.

I just did a little web prowling. Evergreen isn't exactly in my back yard, but close. I get over within a mile or so of it every couple weeks, sometimes even on Sundays. So how come I never heard of it? High local visibility?

Have to check it out some time. The website is currently toast and doesn't have any useful information, but I picked a little off of MSTRC. Does anyone know if they're going to be running on into October?

Wes, I run the Evergreen Website and we got whacked by a hacker and are trying to fix things back up. Evergreen is what they call "Rustic Racing" its a little bit primitive, but what they lack in amenities they make up with in good people and good intentions. The track was quite literally someones back yard track.. and started to grow and draw more people to where this year (after 4 years in operation) was the first full season run at the track. It will never be Oakshade or Eldora.. but if your looking for super laid back, kinda quaint different place to kill off a Sunday afternoon.. Evergreen's the place to be.
