If someone is going to go racing on a budget, they have to save bucks when and where they can. One of the factors that often gets overlooked is that if you have a race car, you have to get it to and from the track. Most people use trailers; prices range $750 to the sky is the limit. Tow dollies run $750 or so on up, maybe less if you get a used one -- if you can find one.
Tow bars for flat towing with all four of the car's wheels on the ground run quite a bit cheaper, $50 - $100. The only problem is that flat towing a most cars with automatic transmissions is a good way to need to buy another transmission. There are some ways around it -- there's a pump kit for Neons that will allow you to flat tow one, but the kit is $900 and the local dealer wants another $500 to install it. So much for that idea.
I'm pretty sure that there are a number of people that would gladly pay a fifty or even hundred pound weight penalty to be able to use a tow bar and be able to tow the car with something like a minivan, rather than a big honking pickup. Depending on how things go this winter I may be one of them. |

Wes,
If your looking to run springport only next year Maurice has said he would allow stick shift pony stocks. There will be an exhaust restriction and I possibly a weigh restriction also. Not sure on the weight though.
Maurice made a point to try and allow anyone to be able to race if they showed up.
Flat towing a Pony stock would be a sight!! _________________ Metz Racing #79

Towing oval track race cars with a tow bar is not a very good idea.
Since certain "adjustments" have been made to make the cars turn left well, they do not track well when being towed with a tow bar.
Tow dollies work on front wheel drive cars but since even the rear wheels have had left turn camber adjustments made and the rear tire pressures are different this is not the perfect solution either.
Unfortunately getting all four tires off the ground is the best way to tow any race car.
Persons wanting trailers should keep their eyes open for used ones between now and Jan 1 as this seems to be the time of the year when they sell the cheapest. _________________ Thanks
