Patrick,

I DO understand where you are comming from, I have lost someone close(not family--good freind) to drinking and driving, I apologize for my haste in writing so soon after reading your post (was very upset) I should have waited a while to say things a little more thought out !

The only thing I would like to add is that it doesn't matter who, where, what,or how someone passes, if they are as big an influnce on the racing family as in this case there SHOULD be something to remember them by ! !

I'm very SORRY for your loss ! ! Crying or Very sad

The green would wave as the drivers come off turn four. But for that entire first green flag lap, everybody stays at a pace lap speed and stays in line. Then as they come off turn four to finish the first lap, they pick up the pace.

That's an awesome idea, Maurice!

Rick, I am sorry to hear of your loss. You have picked a wonderful sport to participate in and an awesome track to be part of. Maybe somehow someway we can help you in your healing. Although no one can ever take the place of your daughter, you have joined the Spartan Speedway Family.

Just as every family has disagreements, we do to at Spartan. But in the end all of us love it there.

My thoughts are with the Heeney family. I hate when people die...

What if Spartan had a night/races to honor all the Spartan Speedway drivers that are no longer with us since the track opened. When I was little, a Figure 8 driver was killed during the race. Clay something I think. Then there's Del, driver of the "Black Beast" Buick. And so many more. Maybe, there could be a memorial wall with pictures & bios someplace at the track.

angel,
I like the idea of the memorial wall.
Also, the person you were thinking of was my uncle,"Crazy"Clay Hayward.

As for the original post, I vote yes for the Wild Child 50 !

I'll talk to the track and see if about getting a 49 lapper ready to go. Lets honor him the best way us racers know how, let's race, rub, be mad, then shake hands and say it's alright man no problem. I'll pay ya back some day.

Racing is racing and we all get mad at some point. But what I have personally learned from this is that we really are a family. We're always there to show are support and help in any way we can. For that very reason we show up every week. Brian had one of the greatest attitudes I have seen. Sure he would get mad and say a bunch of crap. But in the end we all say a bunch of crap. Eventually we end up at one of our trailers all hanging out bench racing and telling everyone how if you would have or if I could have I would have had ya. The racing family is a family of time, we'll always be there in some form or another.

I would like to see their numbers retired in the back wall with a caption above to designate it. This way all of Brians & Charlies family and friends along with all of us who raced and knew Brian can reflect on their memories at the track? It would also signify the fact that they have not left the track and will be remembered forever, something like that? Question

Kinda what they do to retire a players number?

I am so pleased to see how this racing family is already working to help a very distressed member of the family. The Heeney`s are definitely a family needing comfort and just the mention of making these different memorials fall into place is great. I have all the sympathy in the world for the lansingsportsrage person. No one can ever imagine the pain of losing a child. Knowing it first hand, I know what it meant to us when the track designated a special night for our Charlie Jr. There is just no way you can express what that does to a person to know he was loved so much by so many. And I am sure Billy and Carrie would feel the same as we do. Those boys paid the ultimate price, why not lessen the pain for their families and honor them for what they did and who they were at the track. A greiving parent is the worst pain there`s no doubt about that. So I say go for it. Mom Ryan

I like the idea of memorial races honoring those of our racing family so here's another thought on the subject....

what about a "Memorial Race" honoring all drivers from Spartan that we have lost?
You can name it after someone in particular but make it one specific night every year and each class could be a special race to honor those that ran that class....maybe even have a special trophy made for each class that each years winning driver's name can be engraved on it and each year that trophy comes back (or stays on display at the track).
That way everyone who has had an impact on the track or behind the scenes can be remembered.

Just a thought I wanted to mention....
