Sad sunday 6 22 08 as a long time fan of spartan speedway, i like a lot of people ,feel that calling off the racing may have been just,a little to quick.it turned out i thought to be a nice afternoon and evening. maybe next time you might want a watch the weather a little closer, before making that fast decision, not to run the program.

From what I understand there was a lot more than the track condition that went into that call. So far they've done a pretty good job of getting it right. Jim Barker is from what I've been told a pretty good weather man. But it's also easy to see the frustration.

I think that our customers, race fans, drivers, crews, employees and any one involved for that matter deserve an explanation, or at least a snap shot of why the race was called. The factors are numerous but a new factor now is the cost to pull to the track. I may have weighted this factor too heavily and in retrospect I wish I had not cancelled. Our gate opened at 12:00 and at 3:15 we only had about 15-18 cars, the rain had been heavy enough to get the track, parking and the seats soaked. We could have had the track dried by 4:00 or so but now there is little time for hot laps and probably no qualifying. So far this season we have made the right calls but most will probably only remember the last one.

We could have gotten the race in, the cars would have gotten there late but they still would have been there, then again what would the general admission side look like? That is usually the unknown.

I assure you we don't look forward to cancelling because most of the work is in the prep while the actual race event is only a part of what it takes to get the show in. Spartan has gone to the expense of out sourcing a sophisticated answering service in order for everyone to get current updates (517-676-5404) while they are in travel but still there are situations that just don't work out as planned. Sunday was one of them.
