It is nice to see some sort of actions in place for the former Springport Motor Speedway. One thing I think most of us as racers and fans would like to see and see soon, would be what the plans are for which classes will be racing and what the rules are going to be SOON! It is getting close to the end of the year and with next years racing season soon to start, people would like to know these things so racers can make a plan to prep their cars for the track or possibly a different track. It takes more than 3 or 4 months to get a car put together to race at a specific track. I sure hope that these rules and plans get posted somewhere for all of us to read soon.

MidMichiganSpeedway.com will launch tomorrow

What you'll see is 5 classes of racing every Saturday Night.

Supers, Mods, Sportsman, Street Stock and RWD Mini-Stocks... no FWDs.

SLM's are going to run for $2500 to win.. they'll be on 10" slicks.. same tire and basic rules they use at K-Zoo

Mods will run on the 970, while the Sportsman and Street Stocks will be on either an 800 or 900 series.. ala Galesburg

Opening night as previously announced will be April 18th.. but you'll find a dozen more Friday Night shows on the Calendar and 3 Sunday shows which will be part of 3 day weekends.

Well-Well-Well,
If this is True.......So much for our Dodge Neon Program !!!

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, when Mid-Michigan posts there Rules & Schedule.

If this is the Case, I might have to Pump-Up the Program at Spartan Speedway ! Very Happy .

Talk to you all soon, Dave.

I am talking with the Competition Director of Mid Michigan, Dennis Garlanger, about allowing the Pony Stock cars from Springport/Spartan to race there in 2009.

He did not know that Jerry Rabbers had assured us that we would have a place in their racing show.

If Jerry assured you also, let Dennis Garlanger know.

Those of you that would be interested in racing at Mid Michigan in 2009 in a fwd need to speak up now.

Post on MSTRC, email each of the 4 people listed on the Midmichiganspeedway.com web page that is up, call the main office at 269-270-3907 and tell them how you feel.

If you do not want to or feel comfortable talking to them, contact me and I will relay your messages.

We have 8 members of our 2009 team that are wanting to race there and I believe that there are others out there that want to also.

We would have our own class and would not have to race with the rear wheel drives.

If we want the chance to race at Mid Michigan/Springport in our fwd ponies we need to act now and speak up.

With what is going to be paid to the other classes in 2009 at Mid Michigan, I personally believe that we would be compensated ( $$$ ) very well for helping to put on a show and have fun racing.

Get in contact with these people, we can make a differance, help decide if we can race there in 2009 and beyond.

Thank you

Todd ( Yogi ) Metz Sr.

What a huge loss for the pony stock division.
No Beacon Sales Dodge-tourage???? (hey Dave...I just made that one up!)
To lose such staunch supporters of the speedway itself, Dave and Dora Howe, would be a shame as well.
C'mon pony drivers, strength in numbers.
Speak up and fight for your division!

Well, as we can see...... if the site was supposed to be up today, no dice. This is becoming a disturbing pattern. First, the sale of the track was supposed to be closed around mid season, then never happened until sometime in November. Then a home page was posted in Mid December with a promise that more would come next week, with no results. Now another date come and gone with no official word on the schedule, classes, rules, or anything else.

The unfortunate part about this is that rumors are running rampant, and people who would like to start getting prepared are still left swinging in the wind.

Mr. Rabbers, if you are reading this; please get something posted as time is being lost and your lack of communication is not really endearing you to the core of people who have been loyal to this track for many years.

Really didn't want to weigh in here, but,

Mid-Michigan Speedway is going to have an exceptionally large purse to pay out every week if he is going to treat all classes as they should be treated.

Or this track will become a SLM playground, with everyone else coming up too short to be encouraged to unload their car.

I sincerely hope this will not be the case.

And, I truly am concerned with where the SLM draw will come from, given that he intends to run them on slicks as opposed to the Hoosier. Many of the SLM drivers have expressed some concerns with the tire difference and associated cost.

But then again, what a thrill to watch the high dollar, fully equipped "outlaw" supers run that track, that would be wonderful.

From my perspective, it would also be good to see a full class of mods running there, and the street stocks, and FWD ponies, a class Paulie supported and watched grow and now has a devoted following of dedicated racers.

I know he has to have a business plan, and undoubtedly a load of money to get things started. I know my business plans did not allow for what I have described above, but then again, I didn't have a load of money to start out with.

I wish Jerry and Co. well.

have a good day,

schinde

(oh, and you pony drivers, you gotta get together and let him know that RWD is not the only way to go, there is already a full compliment of FWD cars, not sure how many RWD cars are around here to draw from. RWD was never considered in my BP's)

The website is up, and they have started to add content.
SLM rules are posted.

They are somewhat sharing a timeline for their to do list, which is nice.
Seems like the sandbox will be around to play in now.

honestly i don't see him drawing a car count in the mini stocks. the only tracks even close to springport that run mini stocks are galesburg, kalamazoo, and angola, all of which already run on saturday nights. unless he plans on going to those areas and does some heavy advertising and plans on paying them a bunch of money just for coming i'm not too sure how well the mini stocks are going to work out for him. atleast with the pony stocks, there is already an established class that runs there.
