Call Cat's Parts Mart, they sell automatic transmissions for about 150.00 all total you will probably have a total of about 200 into it to get it ready.
We got my car knowing we would have to change it over, and had it all done in about 3 days, without having a clue what we are doing.
If a small problem like this is going to keep him from racing that is a shame. This class is way too much fun to let something like that stop you. If you need help changing the transmission out just ask, there are plenty of guys on here that would help you out. |

Sortabigg,
Sure, your cousin is just starting out, everyone has to start out at one time or another. But, he'll learn quickly. He is surrounded by years of Gokee racing experience.
Whether that car is fast right now or not, it could concievably become very, very fast before the season is over with. It could easily be a very dominant car and we would then have to allow everyone else to switch to manual transmissions.
Go find an automatic, contact Jerry Garland to help set up the gears in it, then install it and go racing.
We can't help it if he didn't check the rules before buying the car, you must understand that.
Do we make one driver upset or do we upset 20 others? I would certainly hope that one driver could make his car conform to the rules in order to be able to race it.

Give them a call at 517-322-2350. Great racing family over there have been sponsoring spartan for years. hope this helps you out. |

If you buy a used trans you will still have to take it apart to change the gear ratio and who ever takes it apart will want to rebuild it, it would be cheaper and easier to FIRST
contact Jerry Garland, he may have a trans ready to go set up with the correct gears in it.
P.s. while your at it install a 1997 to 1999 2.2 engine and pcm then,
either put the 1998-99 pistons in your 1997 or put a 1997 head on a 1998-99 shortblock to raise the compression ratio.
did you read this link on gears?
