Seventh Place Finish for 19-year-old Chad Finley at Berlin Raceway

DeWitt, Michigan (Monday, September 12th, 2011): The ninth race of the inaugural season for JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts would be the Berlin 100 Presented by JEGs.com at Berlin Raceway. The historic Western Michigan oval, a uniquely shaped 7/16 (0.437) mile semi-banked paved oval located west of Grand Rapids in Marne, Michigan would host the racing action on September 10th.

For 19-year-old Chad Finley, heading to the famed Fairgrounds oval with experience there was a bonus and he would use his previous track experience to Qualify eighth quick out of the 21-car field, the inversion draw was a four, which placed Finley on the outside of the fourth row next to former three-time ARCA Racing Series Champion, Tim Steele.

At the start, Finley dropped back a few spots while the rest of the field sorted itself out in front of him. The strategy for the DeWitt, Michigan driver was to ride out the first half of the race, avoid the incidents from any cautions and then go all out in the final ˝ of the race. The only problem was that only a single caution flew during the 100-lap main and once Finley started to work his way back through the field, he only managed to make it up to the seventh position, which is where he finished.

“We outthought ourselves tonight I guess!” Finley remarked after the race was over. “We wanted to save the tires for the end, but with only one caution the whole race, our plan backfired on us. I figured I could let a few cars go there at the beginning. We only had that one yellow and when we decided to go; we could only get back up to seventh. I won’t make that mistake again that’s for sure.” He added.

“The car was pretty solid all night, so that was a positive thing,” He continued. “We just made that one mistake and outthought ourselves. Never would have guessed in a million years that we would have only one caution the entire race, especially here.” Finley laughed. “But we’ll take it. It was a good points night for us, we finished ahead of everyone that was in front of us coming into the race, so we’ll keep chipping away and hope for the best for these last two races.” He ended.

After taking a couple of weekends off, the JEGS/CRA/GM tour will make their way down to the immaculate 0.686 mile semi-banked paved oval of Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis on Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2nd for the series’ 10th race of their inaugural season; The Fall Brawl 100 Presented by JEGS.com. All five traveling series’ within Champion Racing Association (CRA) will invade Clermont, Indiana for the weekend for a fun filled, festive, and important weekend in the Circle City.

As the JEGS/CRA/GM series heads to the Hoosier States’ capital city, Finley will go into the race third in the season long points chase after advancing one spot up the ladder after Berlin. Finley now sits 49 markers back of Eddie Hoffman for second and just 69 points behind current series points leader, Erik Jones. (Jones 841, Hoffman 821, Finley 772).

So far in 2011, Finley has recorded three top five finishes with a season high of a second coming at Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan back on June 17th. His two other top five’s were third place finishes at Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio back on May 28th and his most recent podium showing at Owosso. Overall, he has racked up seven top 10 finishes in eight starts.
