Second JEGS/CRA Race Of 2012 At The Famed Winchester Speedway Up Next For Chad Finley
DeWitt, Michigan (Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012): Chad Finley was hoping that his first ARCA/CRA Super Series start since the 2008 season in the 7-Up 100 at the fast ½ (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio on April 29th would be a sign on things to come for the entire Chad Finley Racing Team. A stacked field of 35 teams were on the grounds and Finley made the packed house on hand stand up and take notice with an impressive second place Qualifying effort.
After starting on the outside of the second row after the inversion draw and through the first half of the 100-lap main, the DeWitt, Michigan driver ran in the top five with the leaders for most of the afternoon until a bump in the wheel on a restart would upset the balance of his machine well past ½ way. After pitting for repairs, he came back out and got back into the top 10 before a wild ride he won’t soon forget.
Coming out of turn four on a restart on lap 89, Nate Caruth and Kenzie Ruston touched sending Ruston around, Finley checked up to avoid the sideways Ruston when several cars piled into the back end of Finley’s #42 autoparts2020.com Ford. The momentum from the wave of cars slamming into the back end of the 20-year-olds’ machine sent his car over on its side and eventually on its roof in a lazy roll before coming to rest on the start / finish line. This was the maiden voyage for Finley’s brand new Howe Racing Enterprises machine nicknamed “Shady Grady” that the team bought only two months previous.
“That’s a hard one to swallow for sure. I hate for the team. All the man hours our team put into this car and to end up on or roof and destroy all that work leaves me speechless.” A dejected Finley remarked. “The car was absolutely awesome right off the truck. In the race, we settled in there in fifth and started to move up and got up to third and put on her on cruise control.” He explained.
“That restart there with 25 or so to go we got hit in the wheel and the car just wasn’t the same,” he continued. “So we pitted and was coming back through there when the #76 and the #39 got together on the restart and all hell broke loose. It felt like they all just kept pile-driving into us like they had their eyes closed and there foot on the gas. Unbelievable!” Finley said.
The next JEGS/CRA race for the CFR Team is on Saturday-Sunday, May 5-6th at the legendary ½ (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval for the Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com. In Finley’s last appearance at the famed speed plant back in October 2011 during the Winchester 400 weekend, he finished on the podium in third and is looking for more this weekend.
“Looking forward to getting back to Winchester. Our last run there we had some success and hopefully we can build from that.” The Great Lakes State driver offered. “We just need a break and when that comes, which I hope is soon, things will start to go our way. My guys never give up and neither do I so we will get some positive things going here for sure real soon.” He ended.
