Well, for those of you that are new, or just maybe not aware of some of the circumstances involved with this, let me enlighten you.

Until I became an announcer, I never knew the kind of grief that a person working in the tower can endure. It is absolutely unbelievable!!!! The things that I have watched Bill, and others have to deal with is something right out of grade school. I have been a race fan all my life, and held race car drivers in a "hero" like status, and still do for the most part. But when I have witnessed drivers and/or crew members CHARGE the tower, screaming and yelling and ready to fight at a drop of the hat, over something that not one of us up there have ANY control over, well, it just is very upseting, and makes you think and feel differently. I COMPLETELY understand why there is a NO ENTRANCE policy for the tower, and you would too if you ever witnessed the things I have.

As far as the times go, every one of you have a different opinion, and stratagy, as to how you go about your race program. We must consider each and every persons opinion here. Some don't care one way or the other, some are VERY concerned about THEIR times being brought to the worlds attention, and some feel everyone has the right to know. There is no way to satisfy everyone's request, therefore, we treat all parties the same, no one gets any print outs. If you want your lap times, then you need to get you someone to do it the ole fashioned way, and the way they do it at every other race track around that doesn't have transponders, sit in the stands and run lap times. Ask Jim Barker, he knows how, we were at Angola last Saturday night, a track WITH transponders, and Jim was helping Greg Nienhouse, and guess what he was doing?? Sitting in the grandstands, with 2 stop watches, running lap times for Greg, and writing them down!!! It's nothing new here folks, just because we have a system capable of doing such things, doesn't mean we should, or have to give them out to everyone. The overall cost and hassle do not equal the means, at this time, hey, maybe in the future.

What would all you guys do if we didn't have transponders??? Answer that question, then act accordingly.

It's also been my experience that it's the lower classes that seem to have the biggest problems. This comes from the charging of the tower, secretiveness of times and startagies, and general disruption within the class, that leads to ill will amounst some of the participants of these divisions. Not calling anyone out here, or judging a certain class. I've seen it at many different tracks. I don't feel we'll being doing anyone any favors if we were just to post the Pony class, just the "few" people that want it, which is NOT everyone in the class, and mostly only those that are on here. Just get out the stop watches drivers.

Not trying to be a butthead, even though I'm sure a lot of you feel I am!! Just trying to shed a little light on the situation!!

Big Ed

Why should it hurt anyone ?....Next thing you know someone is screaming "FAVORITISM", and why should it only help some? Contrary to popular belief, not everyone has access to the internet or even has a computer.

Maybe next year there could be something set up on the registration form or a check box on the registered drivers list asking each driver if they want their laptimes posted on the internet. Then the ones that don't could be ommited.

I don't think the lap times for every lap need to be posted. K-Zoo does post the fastest lap each driver runs in there races for that night on the results page, that is nice.

I don't think it would be that big a deal, I do agree that it would be more work for the scorers and a little more cost for paper and ink, to give each driver a print out of their own lap times for the night. It could be handed out at the pay window. I don't think drivers should get someone else's printout. Like Ed said, if you want to know what the other guys are running then clock them on a stopwatch.

One thing I would like to see is the transponders be mandatory to be on during practice and the times posted on the scoreboard as they go by. This is something that K-Zoo does. The fans can see who is fast that way and new fans to the track can see who the fast cars are in each division. As a crew member I like it because I am not as accurate with a stopwatch (I'm not too far off) as the computer.

KT,

I can enable the times on the scoreboard during hotlaps but I don't have the time usually to seperate the classes, therefore the 1 - 3 positions on the board would be the 3 fastest cars all classes combined. I usually can't get to the track much before 4 and it takes me about 15 minutes or so to get everything set up to show laptimes.....but I'll get the board fired up as soon as possible.

Bill,
Hey.... I never once b..ched.... I just conveyed my perspective of the incident and wished you had seen it that way Smile

Lets see. We race in front of a crowd. They all watch us. They know who is fast and who is not. Therefore posting everyones lap time for every lap would probably be an exercise in busy work for the one delegated to do that task. As for the issue of hurting or helping, I think it is what it is and reporting it should not help or hurt anyone. It does not create an advantage for any one. It is merely reporting facts.

Wow sound like everybody needs some time off. If someone besides the scorers what to make a buck. Sit in the stand and write down the announced qualifying times and put them together and print them…… Then sell to the racers that want them. Count me in for a copy of qualifying times. It would allow me to keep a crew member working on the car rather than sitting in the stands writing down numbers.

Second I think posting the lap times for all divisions is a good idea for it will keep the officials honest as far as breakout times. There have been multiple cases of people under there qualifying times and the officials (flagmen not scorers) have let it go

Ed-- As racers we are not looking to belittle the officials we just want a fair deal. If you spend a half hour teching my car then spend a half hour teching the next guy’s car. Thats all we want. Even across the board no specials, no favorites, just fair treatment for everyone from the slowest to the fastest. MG

Actually, I have alittle more to say. You know Torg38 already you're throwing darts at the officials. Why should these printouts be given to anyone. As far as I can see all it is going to do is open another door for you all to attack the officials if we accomodate this request.

See you tomorrow night - what a big Friday night it's going to be. Laughing
