How are the ponystock cars getting up to 8 degrees on camber ? we put our car over as far as the adjustments would allow and only achieved 2 degrees. are they lenghtening the lowers, or moving the mounts? are they using shorter front springs? we are using stock parts and are nowhere near what i saw at springport sat nite.

I have the same trouble on my GrandAm in the front. The strut bolts only adjust so far. I just set them as far as they will go and jam a hardened steel bolt in the top just to make sure it stays there. In the rear, I can get quite a bit of camber by spacing the hub bolts with hardened steel nuts and washers. you have 4 bolts holding the rear hub on. Space the top 2 on the drivers side, and the bottom 2 on the passenger side. Also, the neons are able to get more camber just by design. i watched the Beckners adjust the camber on Wayne Jrs neon and everything they have is bone stock. they were able to achieve much more camber than me. also, most of the guys have figured out that if you adjust the toe OUT on the right front so you push towards the wall just a little (keeps the rear end from wanting to come around on you in a front wheel drive) this makes the right front appear to be leaning more than it actually is. In past years we did have people altering things to get more camber, but it is now clearly stated in the rules that you cannot do it. hope this helps.

There probably isn't any car out there that can achieve 8 degrees on the RF without some sort of modification. Therefore, what we've got is a situation where if we find a car that is right at 8 degrees, we will study that car very closely to see if a modification was done to get the camber that far. You can run that much, but you can't make modifications to get it to that point.

Some cars might be able to get more than others, however. So, what we will do as the season gets started is to keep a close eye on the cars and see who is running what.

If we find that only the Mopars can get something like 6 degrees and the GM's can only get 3 degrees, but need more, we might make some sort of allowance. Not really sure yet, but it's something we might look at if necessary. We want to try and keep the cars as even as possible.

You don't need as much camber at Springport as you do at Spartan. Likewise, you don't want to run as much toe-out at Springport as you would at Spartan. You have longer straightaways at Springport and those two items will slow down the top speed that you can reach before entering the corner. A decent Pony Stock will reach over 85 mph on the straightaway at Springport. Some will approach 90 mph. You want as little rolling friction as possible because you don't have much horsepower trying to overcome that resistance.

The turns are bigger with more banking at Springport as compared to Spartan. This also reduces the requirement for the extra camber and toe-out. At Springport, you want to be on the throttle as much as possible without creating a big push coming off the corner. You also have to learn how to drive as far down the straightaway before lifting and how to get the car into the corner fast. A few drivers have figured this out and they are fast.

Concentrate on your own car and what it needs. And concentrate on learning what you need to do to get around the racetrack. There's a lot more to it than just steering the car and pushing the throttle.

If the car doesn't feel right at any single point on the track, work on making that problem go away. You will instantly lower your lap times. You will get quicker and then you will find another spot that doesn't feel right. Work on that one. Get the picture?

this trick was started years ago by many Spartan Pony teams,,they just installed smaller Diameter bolts to get more camber,,,have you guys tried using smaller bolts?

It was Legal to install smaller diameter bolts where the stock adjustment bolts go. this will get you a lot more adjustment.
