Spartan Speedway braved the cold weather and completed a very quick program by 10:15 pm. The Metro Ford Super Late Model feature once again had a new face in victory lane as veteran Ohio campaigner, Stan Perry, pulled out a strong victory over Jon McNett, Charlie Ryan Jr., Dave Stehouwer and Phil Massuch. Perry and McNett ran side-by-side for five laps until Perry took the point with ten laps to go and stretched his lead as the fans watched the heated battle for third between Ryan Jr., Stehouwer and Massuch. Heat race wins went to John Ledwidge and McNett. Scott Lamp had quick time of 22 cars on hand at 12:913.
The Michigan Modifieds had another exciting feature and a new face in victory lane as Harry Parish brought home the win with Jim Butler and Gary Sherman all over his rear bumper. Terry Goldberg and Dan Loughan rounded out the top five. Tim Easy, Fred Lytle and Parish took the heat wins. Justin Kazbar claimed the 10-car semi feature. Bud Perry set fast time 26 cars on hand at 13:488.
The Performance NW Street Stocks had a very quick paced event that had wild racing all over the track as the leaders diced though heavy lapped traffic. Brad Moore and Pat Dent put on a whale of a show only to have their nights end on the sole caution of the event. With five laps to go, Moore lost a rear axle and during the yellow, leader Dent headed to the pits with a flat tire. The race for the checkered was a great battle and once again there was a new face in victory lane. Mike McEwan claimed his first feature win ever at the speedway over Dave Thornburn, Rob Marten, Mike Heavens and Stan Lambert. Heavens, Lambert and Trent Jensen took home heat wins and Brad Moore was the fast qualifier of 26 cars at 14:393.
The Post-Net Pony Stocks had another first time winner as Bo Smith took home his first victory ever in a racecar.
This weekend will bring a double-header weekend as Friday night will be “Memorial Day Trophy Races” for all four divisions and Sunday will be the First Sunday Spectacular for the Figure 8’s, Street Stocks, Legends, Dwarfs and Baby Grands. This is the rain date for the May 19th event. Poor Paul looks forward to seeing you all at “The Track the Stars Call Home.”
