On Friday, June 3rd, Darren Wright looked to be the man to beat, in spite of the fact that Todd Metz Sr. set a new qualifying record (16.020) for the Boss Snow Equipment Pony Stocks at the Spartan Speedway. Brian Beckner was shown as the early leader, but Wright took the lead from Beckner on lap five, and led until lap 15, when he slid up the track a bit going into turn two, opening the door for Metz Sr. to take over the top spot. Metz’s reign was short lived though, as Wayne Beckner Jr. dove under Todd Metz Jr. (heat winner) and into second, then took the lead from Metz Sr. on lap 17. Beckner Jr. went on to win the 20-lap A feature, while Metz Jr., Metz Sr., Kyle Crump and Wright rounded out the top five.

Abby Looman (heat winner) flexed her muscle and led the first five laps of the B feature, while Patrick Denison began his march up through the field. Denison took the lead on lap six, as Bryan Jenks went to work on Looman for second, then RJ Miller challenged Looman and nailed down the third position. Denison went on to take the win over Jenks, Miller, Looman and Roberts. Lex Jarecki also won his heat for the division.

Steve Prucnell led the 20-lap Lipari Foods Spartan Stocks A feature to the halfway point. He had opened up a pretty good lead as a battle raged behind him. Dane Long, Damon Place and Ron Heeney made their way up through the field, and Long took the lead from Prucnell, on the restart, after a lap 10 caution. Damon Place jumped to the high side of Long on lap 11 and took the lead, as Heeney tacked himself on to Place’s rear bumper. Heeney slowed dramatically on lap 16, while Misty Allen, Prucnell and Chuck Ammerman battled for fourth. Heeney got back up to speed but brought out the caution. Heeney slowed again after the restart and wasn’t able to continue his bid for the win. Place took the checkered flag followed by Long, Ammerman, Allen and Prucnell. Heeney had won the Australian Pursuit earlier in the evening.

Al Williams was shown as the early leader for the Spartan Stock B feature, and at the halfway point, Williams slowed, allowing Tyler Hawkins to take over the lead. Matt Childers (heat race winner) dove under Hawkins on lap 13 and never looked back. After 20 laps, Childers scored the feature win over Hawkins, Williams, Marc Childers and Shawn McCall.

Tim Ryan found his way back to the Winner’s Circle in the Sawyers Superstore Super Late Model division. 15-year old, Dominique VanWieringen, led the first 12 laps, as Ryan worked his way to the front. Dave Stehwouer was able to reel in VanWieringen by lap eight, but Ryan was able to get around Stehouwer and set his sights on the leader. On lap 13, Ryan dove under VanWieringen for the lead, bringing Stehouwer and Chris Hettinger with him. Hettinger had his hands full with a lap 16 challenge for third from Jimmy Gallagher. Gallagher took the spot away, while Stehouwer tried to find a way around Ryan. Stehouwer ran out of laps, with Ryan taking home the win. Stehouwer, Gallagher, Hettinger and Bob Bauer rounded out the top five. Hometown driver, Scott Sigman, took the heat win for the division.

Ron Parish and Chris Hettinger had a battle royale going for the lead in the early laps of the Modified division 35-lap feature. Parish narrowly led the first ten laps, running side-by-side with Hettinger. Hettinger gained the advantage on lap eleven when lapped traffic came into play. A spin back in the pack set up a restart with Hettinger on the high side, Parish on low side. The duo ran door handle to door handle as Larry Wallace stuck a nose under Parish. Parish moved up the track a bit and into Hettinger and both cars spun. Both were sent to the rear, with Wallace being shown as the leader on the restart. Leroy Ellis was breathing down Wallace’s neck on the restart, and took the lead on lap 14, while Jon McNett, Bill Butler and Dan Loughan duked it out for third. Loughan and Butler got together on lap 20, opening the door for Jacob Mann and Hettinger to jump into the mix. Megan Carpenter sat just outside the top five and she and Mann jockeyed for sixth, as Ron Parish had worked his way back up into contention. Parish drove under Carpenter, bringing Loughan with him, but at the stripe, it was Ellis, Wallace, McNett, Butler and Hettinger. Jim Kennedy and Wallace both scored heat wins.
