Bozell Best at Sunday Slugfest

Chris Hettinger led the first 25 of 75 laps in the Sawyers Superstore Super Late Model Division, on Midwest Racing Scene Slugfest Sunday, at the Spartan Speedway. Dave Stehouwer was tacked on his rear bumper, trying to find a way around him and into the lead. Stehouwer took over the lead on lap 26, bringing Andy Bozell with him. Stehouwer and Bozell pulled away from the field and battled for first, with Bozell jumping to the outside of Stehouwer going into the turns. Stehouwer was able to pull away on the straightaways but Bozell dove to the inside and took the lead from Stehouwer on lap 42. After 75 laps, it was Bozel taking the checker, followed by Phil Bozell, Stehouwer, Bob Bauer and Jeff Hackworth rounding out the top five.
Tom Dumbauld Jr. was shown as the early leader for the A feature for the Lipari Foods Spartan Stocks. Misty Allen took to the bottom of the track and ducked under Dumbauld for the lead on lap10. Todd Foote Jr. was in hot pursuit though, and took the lead away on lap 12. Mike Ammerman worked his way to the front and he and Foote broke away from the pack. The duo ran up front until lap 23 when Ammerman pulled off with mechanical problems, leaving Foote alone out front. At the checker, it was Foote, Damon Place, Allen, Dumbauld Jr. and Steve Prucnell. Chuck Ammerman took the Australian Pursuit win.
Matt Childers took the B feature win, taking the lead from Lonnie Saumier Jr. on lap six. Matt’s brother, Marc Childers, ran in second until mechanical problems sent him to the pit, turning second back over to Saumier. At the line, it was Childers, Saumier, Tyler Hawkins, Mark Carson and Ken Dollarhite.
Edson Rowley took the early lead for the Boss Snow Equipment Pony Stock A feature, but Tyler Heeney took the spot away by lap three. Todd Metz Sr. worked his way up through the pack to challenge for the lead just four laps later. Metz put some real estate between himself and the Wayne Beckner Jr. who took over the second spot from Heeney on lap 13. Beckner was reeling in Metz Sr, but ran out of laps and at the stripe, it was Metz Sr., Beckner Jr., Todd Metz Jr., Tyler Heeney and Kyle Crump.
Patrick Denison took the B feature win, taking the lead from Rich Roberts on lap nine. Roberts was able to keep pace with Denison but was never able to re-take the lead. After 20 laps, it was Denison, Roberts, Mike Westphal, Bryan Jenks and Abby Looman.
Ken Dollarhite took his first-ever feature win in the Spartan Stock Figure 8’s.
Todd Metz Jr. took the win in the Pony Stock Figure 8’s.
