By: Spartan correspondent, Michelle SpragueThe SuperPro Series, sponsored by Lipari Foods, ran their 75-lap feature, postponed from earlier in the season, but Mother Nature threatened to put a damper on this attempt as well. With rain falling on the Spartan Speedway as the SuperPros lined up on the track, track drying efforts were put into motion, and eventually, the green flag waved, signaling the start of the Lipari Foods 75.
Matt Hall, of Newport, and Zion Schaub, of Traverse City, made up a youthful front row, with both drivers being 15-years old. Ft. Wayne’s Tommy Cook took the lead in the early laps, while Stroh, IN’s Rick Everidge took over the second spot. Dewitt’s Chad Finley was working his way up through the pack to sit in fourth behind Hall. The restart, after a lap eight caution, saw Cook, Everidge, and Finley sitting in the top three. Eaton Rapid’s Rob Buckley and Joe Fadke, of Brook, IN, rounded out the top five. Everidge took the lead from Cook on lap 26, with Finley making his move to get around Cook two laps later. At lap 30, it was Finley to the lead, with Everidge and Cook trying to run him down. Buckley and Fadke got around Cook on lap 40. A multi-car altercation on lap 56 and another on lap 64 set up a 10-lap dash for the finish. 16-year old Finley led the charge on the restart and went on to win. Everidge, Buckley, Fadke and Clark rounded out the top five.
The Valvoline Instant Oil Change Modifieds saw Charlotte’s Perry Davenport make a trip to the Corrigan Oil Winner’s Circle for his wire to wire win in the Modified division. Davenport started on the inside pole beside Bill Butler, of Charlotte, and at the green flag, jumped into the lead. Dan Loughan, of Charlotte, held down the third position, behind Butler, with Corunna’s Larry Wallace knocking on the door in fourth. Vermontville’s Leroy Ellis fell in line behind Wallace in fifth. Wallace made his way around Loughan for the third position. Butler retired to the infield, as Wallace tried to catch Davenport for first. Lansing’s Mike Stenberg moved into the top five, setting his sights on Ellis for fourth, as Davenport ran away from the field. At the line, it was Davenport, Wallace, Loughan, Ellis and Stenberg. Holt’s Trei Deubel and Davenport took heat wins for the evening.
The Performance Automotive NW Sportsman division is still struggling in the car count department, but Jack Koone Jr., of East Lansing, continues to roll on, taking the win after 25-laps. Lansing’s Jamie Feguer led the first ten laps, with Williamston’s Jordan Harvey tacked to his rear bumper. Koone began his march to the front to sit in second, behind Feguer, by lap eight and took the lead on lap ten. Mason’s Scott Sigman and Charlotte’s Dane Long worked their way up through the pack to sit second and third with five laps to go. At the line, it was Koone over Sigman, Long, Harvey, and Leslie’s Damon Place. Sigman tallied the heat win.
Dimondale’s Spencer Drake swept the Pure Stock division, winning both the heat and the feature. Justin Lewis, of Leslie, took the early lead, with Charlotte’s Marc Childers taking command. Lewis took the lead back on lap 11, with Drake right on his tail. Drake went on to win over Lewis, Childers, Lansing’s Ian Schafer and Eaton Rapids Brian Barden.
The Boss Snow Equipment Pony Stocks saw Edson Rowley III continue his win streak, as he drove his way into the Corrigan Oil Winner’s Circle. Patrick Denison, of Eaton Rapids, took a heat win and led a portion of the 20-lap feature. With Denison in the lead, Jackson’s George Wyers was knocking on the door for the lead and took the spot away at the halfway mark. Rowley was running in second, behind Wyers, and took second away on lap 12. Gregory’s Jeremy LaFontaine made his way around Wyers, and into second, but couldn’t reel in Rowley to challenge for the lead. At the checker, it was Rowley, LaFontaine, Wyers, Lansing’s Lex Jarecki and Wayne Beckner Jr. LaFontaine took the second heat win for the division.
