The MCR Dwarfs were in action at the Spartan Speedway, Friday, Sept. 2nd, with
25 cars in the pit. All 25 lines up for the 25-lap feature and when the green flag dropped
on the feature, it was a drag race for the lead. Craig Curtis took the early lead, leaving Jr.
Gould, Jon Wylie and Rob Roney to decide second. Gould and Wylie got together on the
restart after a lap two caution, sending both to the rear of the field. Roney inherited
second, and he and Curtis duked it out for the lead. Roney took the lead on lap seven,
with Curtis, Stephen Bobek, Kevin Ayers, and Dave Wylie sitting in the top five. By lap
16, the leaders had caught the tail of the field and started working their way through
traffic. Curtis was able to close on Roney, who had a commanding lead, but tangled with
a slower car. Bobek took over second on the restart, but wasn’t able to catch Roney for
the win. At the checkered, it was Roney, Bobek, K. Ayers, D. Wylie and Jeff Slayton.
Roney won the Four Car Dash and Eric Hawk, Todd Getz and K. Ayers all went home
with heat wins for the evening.
The Boss Snow Equipment Pony Stocks saw Trina Wurmnest take her first Pony
Stock checkered flag of the season for her heat win and track champion, Todd Metz Jr.,
won his heat, as well as taking the feature win over Brian Beckner, Darren Wright Joe
Bates and R J Miller.
As a preview for the upcoming mayhem show, a number of competitors gave the
fans a sample of some of the crazy races that will be run on the biggest Friday night show
of the year. Steve Utley and Brian Beckner won the Flag Pole races, Matt Searles ground
out the victory in the Skid Plate race and William Dire won the 30-lap “mini” Enduro.
