Dave Stehouwer, of Muskegon, took the Sawyers Superstore Super Late Model win at the Spartan Speedway on Friday, May 20th. It was an uphill climb for all of the drivers, as cautions marred the 40-lap feature. Scott Rugg was shown as the early leader, as Stehouwer went to work from his signature high line. Stehouwer caught Rugg, but cautions, for multi-car tangles, handed the lead back to Rugg a number of times, while Jon McNett, Jimmy Gallagher and Justin Claucherty gave chase. Stehouwer took the lead for good on lap seven, as Gallagher got around Rugg for second. Stehouwer opened up a bit of a lead, leaving Gallagher to fend off Claucherty, McNett, Rugg and Logan Beckwith. Beckwith was able to work his way around McNett and into fourth, when a slower car got into McNett. This brought the seventh, and most lengthy, caution. On the double-file restart, Stehouwer put himself out in front of the pack, but caution waved for the final time, and at 24 laps into a 40-lap feature, Stehouwer was shown the checkered flag. Gallagher, Claucherty, Tim Ryan and Dave Watson rounded out the top five. Ryan and Rugg were heat winners for the evening.

Dan Loughan, Craig Curtis and Larry Wallace put on a whale of a show for the Modified 35-lap feature, but Leroy Ellis motored his way into the Winner’s Circle from mid-pack. At the green, Loughan took the early lead over Curtis, Wallace, Ron Parish (Four Car Dash winner) and Ellis. The top three broke away from the pack as Ellis took fourth away from parish and went to work reeling in the lead trio. Wallace, in the meantime, was trying to find a way around Dwarf car transplant, Craig Curtis, on the outside but dropped back in line behind Curtis. Curtis went to work on Loughan for the lead and was able to take the spot away on lap 18. Ellis was lurking, waiting to strike, and on lap 20, he took the lead and put some breathing room between himself and the rest of the field. Wallace was able to get around Curtis for second but lost some ground to Ellis in the process. At the line, it was Ellis, Wallace, Curtis, Loughan and Chris Hettinger. Kyle Drake scored a heat win to take his first checkered flag in a Modified.
