Finley, Parish, Long and Abbot Victorious at Spartan Speedway
The Comcast Cablevision Super Late Models 50-lap feature had a 14-car invert putting Tim Ryan and Larry Roberts on the front row. Tim Ryan took the early lead as side-by-side racing was stacked up throughout the pack. Lap 6 had Joey Shuryan, John Dunivion and Roberts going three wide for 7th. Bill Heeney Jr. had a nice run going in 4th until he spun on lap 8. The restart had Dunivion and Roberts getting together, ending Roberts's night on the hook. When racing resumed, Doug Finley jumped to the outside and was working Shuryan for 6th from his 11th starting spot. Lap 18 had the lead group single file, with racing action for 8th as Jack Landis and Phil Massuch battled hard with a very loose Jon McNett. Stan Perry pulled into the infield with overheating problems on lap 20 ending a fine 2nd place run. Lee Taylor took over the position and had a group of cars bunched upped trying to take the spot. The halfway point had exciting racing all over the track as Jeff Hackworth and Shuryan tried to find ways around Taylor for 2nd. Meanwhile, Finley, Landis and Massuch were working the traffic and were breaking into the top 5. Lap 36 had Finley and Hackworth getting together racing hard for 3rd. Hackworth was sent to the rear and Finley took over 3rd behind Taylor. On the restart, Finley took 2nd and set his sites on Ryan for the lead. Finley was able to take the lead with 10 laps to go as Landis, Massuch and Charlie Ryan Jr. worked the quick outside groove and bunched up the race for 2nd through 6th as Tim Ryan, Taylor and Shuryan hung to the bottom of the track. Finley went on to win (started 11th) as Landis (started 12th) brought home 2nd, followed by Tim Ryan, Lee Taylor and Charlie Ryan Jr. Chargin' Charlie Ryan Jr. was the Pierce Race Engines Hard Charger gaining 13 positions from his 18th starting spot.
Jim Heeney, Jim Davis and Chris Place took home heat wins and John Ledwidge won the semi-feature. Dave Stehouwer was the RaceFan.com fast qualifier for the 24-car field.
The WIBM AM1450 Michigan Modifieds had a 9-car invert putting Dan Logan and Harry Parish on the front row. The first five rows ran in formation until lap 7 when Parish nosed into the lead. Lap 15 had Ron Parish dirt trackin' trying to hold back Larry Wallace for 7th. Wallace finally took the spot 3 laps later as the top 5 were Parish, Logan, Leroy Ellis, Michael Gaier and Brain Heeney. Lap 28 had Wallace and Justin Kazmar in a heated battle for 6th when the two came together in turn 2. Wallace went to the pits ending his night. After the restart, Parish drove to his first victory in his first appearance this season over Logan, Ellis, Heeney and Perry taking 5th over a great run by rookie sensation, Michael Gaier. Bud Perry was the 3-D Automotive Hard Charger gaining 5 positions from his 10th starting spot.
Dick Dalton won the first heat in his first ever-modified race, while Mike Wells and Leroy Ellis were also victorious in heat race action. Larry Wallace set fast time for the 21-car field.
The Performance NW Street Stocks were next out and a 12-car invert had Rob Patrick and Brian Beckner on the front row. Patrick took the early lead as Mike Havens and Dave Thorburn jumped to the outside for 7th. Patrick and Mike McEwan started to break away from the pack when Jonathan Eppler and Dane Long got together in turn 3. Eppler was sent to the rear as Long took over 3rd place. Lap 11 had the lead trio putting on a show as Patrick, McEwan and Long went three wide for the lead. Long took the inside with McEwan on the outside as the leaders entered heavy traffic. Havens and Thornburn then were able to catch the leaders, but at the finish Long was able to take the victory over McEwan, Havens, Thorburn and Landon Hidy. Long also brought home the Lost Tiger Tattoos Hard Charger award gaining 7 positions from his 8th starting spot.
Wayne Beckner Jr., Andy Schnelzer and Doc Dutton won heats and Bob Flotka won the semi-feature. The WhoWon.com Fast Qualifier was Ben Hidy.
The Midwest Amusement Pony Stocks had their largest field ever as 20-cars took the green flag. Nate Hinderer and Andy Sands was the starting front row. Hinderer took the early lead until Jacob Huey took over. A lap 4 caution had Mannie Goodrich and Missy Bishop getting together in a great race for 3rd. The restart had Bishop fighting Huey for the lead as Chris Van Gorden and Julie Abbot worked through the traffic to gain 3rd and 4th respectively. A lap 11 restart had Abbot and Van Gorden splitting Huey fro the lead. Abbot was able to take the top spot and hold on for her 2nd win of the season over Van Gorden, Huey, Kenny Clark and Bishop. Abbot also won the Mac's All Car Hard Charge Award gaining 16 positions.
Missy Bishop and Chris Van Gorden won the Pony Stock heats and Julie Abbot set fast time for the 20-car field.
