Jack Landis Takes Win and Points Lead at Spartan Speedway
The COMCAST Cablevision Super Late Model 50-lap feature had a 12-car invert putting John Dunivon and Stan Perry on the pole. Perry jumped out to take the lead until Jimmy Gallagher checked up in turn 4 causing Dave Stehouwer, Jim Heeney and Jeff Hackworth to get together. The restart had Jack Landis as the car to watch as he quickly worked up to Perry's bumper by lap 6. As the Ohio Posse took off, a great race heated up for 3rd between Tim Ryan, Dunivon and Charlie Ryan Jr. Lap 14 had Charlie Ryan using the outside groove to take over 3rd and from there quickly join Perry and Landis in a 3-way battle for the lead. The half way point had the trio racing under a blanket as Landis looked under Perry for the lead and Ryan Jr. jumping to the outside. The 3 veterans put on a show until Landis finally got the lead, bringing Ryan Jr. with him. Another veteran, Dave Stehouwer was not be outdone as he quickly moved through the field and was on Perry's bumper for 3rd. Racing was fierce from 5th through 12th as Chris Place and Tim Ryan ran door handle to door handle for the last 10 laps. Landis (started 6th) was able to hold off Ryan Jr. (started 9th) for the win as Stehower (started 10th) took over 3rd from Perry and Place (started 11th) finally took home a well-earned 5th place finish. Chargin' Charlie Ryan Jr. won his 3rd Pierce Race Engines Hard Charger Award finishing 2nd from his 9th starting spot.
Tim Rugg, Stan Perry and Tim Ryan were the heat race winners and Jeff Hackworth was the RaceFan.com Fast Qualifier with a lap of 13.184 for the 20-car field.
The WIBM AM 1450 Michigan Modifeds were out next for their 35-lap feature event. Leroy Ellis and Bill Butler were the starting front row with Ellis taking the early lead. Ellis looked to have his first win in hand pacing the field for the first 28 laps. Veteran Dave Mingus raced Ellis hard into turn 3 causing Ellis to drift up and allowing Mingus and Larry Wallace to sneak under. Mingus (started 4th) then went on to claim his first win of the season over Wallace (started 9th), Ellis, Bud Perry (started 11th) and Harry Parrish Sr. (started 3rd). Larry Wallace was the 3-D Auto Racing Supplies Hard Charger for the evening finishing 2nd from his 9th starting spot.
Jon Deford, Leroy Ellis and Dan Logan won the Michigan Modified heats and Bud Perry was the RaceFan.com Fast Qualifier with a lap of 13.715 for the 20-car field.
The Performance NW Street Stocks 25-lap feature had a deep 16-car invert with Dave Bollis and Trent Jenson the starting front row. Bollis and Rob Marten dueled side by side for the point and then third row starter Dave Thorburn quickly joined the mix as the trio went three wide for the lead. Lap 6 had Thornburn finally getting the lead as Ben Hidy and Mike Havens tangled on the front stretch. When racing resumed, Thorburn and Marten waged a great battle for the lead with Marten retaking the point on lap 11. Landon Hidy was the man on the move as he took over 3rd on lap 12 from his 14th starting spot. Lap 14 had Landon Hidy on the outside and taking over the top spot. From there Landon Hidy went on for the win over Marten (started 3rd), Dane Long(started 15th), Doc Dutton (started 13th) and Dave Bollis. Landon Hidy also claimed the Lost Tiger Tattoo Hard Charger Award by increasing 13 positions from his 14th starting spot.
Mark Ragsdale won the Street Stock Semi. "Sponge Bob" Rob Patrick, Trent Jenson and Rich Kinch took home the heat wins and Ben Hidy was the RaceFan.com fast qualifier for the 23 car field with a 14.379 lap.
The Midwest Amusement Pony Stocks 15-lap feature had Lyndsay Ward and Jerri Lynn Munn on the front row. The start had Brian Passick jump to the early lead from his second row starting spot with Munn settling in for 2nd. Lap 4 had Nate Hinderer taking the point as the field had wild racing everywhere on the track. The large 20-car field had Chris Van Gorden working the outside groove towards the front from his 12th starting spot. Van Gorden finally took the lead from Hinderer and from there was never headed. Following them to the line was Julie Abbott (started 15th), Jimmy Scavarda (started 9th) and Missy Bishop (started 11th). Bruce Jones was the Mac's All Car Auto Salvage Hard Charger finishing 6th from his 19th starting spot.
The Pony Stocks heats went to George Mosurc and Julie Abbott. Abbott also was the RaceFan.com fast qualifier for the 20-car field with a 16.781 lap.
